Real reason why Tom Selleck is 'furious' over former co-star Donnie Wahlberg's 'Blue Bloods' spin-off

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Tom Selleck is reportedly "furious" with his former 'Blue Bloods' co-star Donnie Wahlberg after the latter secured a lead role in the upcoming spin-off 'Boston Blue'.
The news comes just three months after CBS ended 'Blue Bloods', a series that Selleck fiercely fought to keep on the air.

Tom Selleck feels 'betrayed' by Donnie Wahlberg's Blue Bloods spin-off
According to insiders, Tom Selleck feels deeply betrayed, believing Donnie Wahlberg's new project disregards their shared history and undermines his efforts to keep 'Blue Bloods' on air.
"This is a HUGE betrayal," a source told RadarOnline. "The Reagans never left New York. Now Danny's just up and moving to Boston? Selleck is furious — it's like throwing the rest of the cast away, including the star."

The long-running CBS cop drama concluded in December 2024 after a 14-season run.
Selleck had voiced his dismay at the show's cancellation, previously telling TV Insider, "I'm kind of frustrated... In a Top 100 Shows of 2023-2024 (in total viewers), we were number 9 out of 100. If you discount the three football shows, we're #6!"
He added, "My frustration is the show was always taken for granted because it performed from the get-go."
His disappointment was evident when he shared how difficult it was to accept that the show was ending.
"I remember after the weekend [of the final episode's shoot], I said, 'I've got to get to bed early tonight because I have to do my dialogue for Monday.' Well, there was no Monday. It's just going to take a while," the 80-year-old shared.
Adding fuel to the fire is the sense of betrayal Selleck reportedly feels over Wahlberg's decision to move forward with the spin-off.
"Tom considered himself this father figure to Donnie and helped him with his acting skills," the source claimed. "Now he's found out everything was going on behind his back. It's a huge burn."
While Wahlberg, 55, has yet to publicly address the reported fallout, his previous remarks painted a strong bond between the two actors.
Donnie Wahlberg once shared he calls Tom Selleck 'dad'
Donnie Wahlberg told Fox News last year that he affectionately referred to Tom Selleck as "dad."
"Tom Selleck, I call him Dad," the 'Wahlburgers' star shared. "At first he was kind of a little thrown by it for the first season or two, he'd be like, ‘Oh, hey, Donnie.’ Now it's like we've gotten so close."
Selleck, Wahlberg revealed, even calls him "son."

"He's literally like, 'Oh, hey, son, how are you doing today?' It's like we've just become a real family," Wahlberg added.
Despite this, RadarOnline claimed Wahlberg may have prioritized the spin-off's salary over remaining loyal to Selleck.
The newly announced series, 'Boston Blue,' will follow Wahlberg's Danny Reagan as he joins the Boston Police Department- a nod to his own Boston roots.

The show will see Danny partner with Lena Peters, the eldest daughter of a prominent Boston law enforcement family.
The series is set to debut during the 2025-2026 TV season, though CBS has yet to announce an exact premiere date.
