Reese Witherspoon sets record straight on Kate Winslet feud rumors over 2007 awards ceremony speech
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Reese Witherspoon is putting an end to swirling rumors of a rift between her and fellow Oscar-winner Kate Winslet.
The drama kicked off on Thursday, January 30, when the 'Wild' actress shared a story about an unnamed actress who allegedly stopped speaking to her after a lighthearted roast at an awards ceremony.

Critics were quick to speculate that the actress in question was Kate Winslet, 49, igniting a viral theory that the two had secretly fallen out, according to the Daily Mail.
But Witherspoon was not having it.
On Saturday, she took to Instagram Stories to clear the air, writing, "Hey guys… just spoke to my very dear friend for years, Kate W. We laughed about this stupidity. Please do not believe the internet. We are good friends and have never had any falling out."
In a follow-up post, the 'Sweet Home Alabama' star added, "This is completely UNTRUE... so silly!"

Fans reportedly traced the supposed feud back to a speech Reese Witherspoon gave to honor Kate Winslet at the BAFTA/LA Cunard Britannia Awards in November 2007.
During her speech, the 'Legally Blonde' actress humorously recounted how the 'Titanic' actress had moved into her neighborhood and playfully mimicked the British actress.
"Dahling, Sam is off shooting, and I believe our children are the same age. Could they possibly have a play date and oh, by the way, it's almost 9 o’clock and I’ve had nothing to drink, do you have any wine?" Witherspoon said.
She also playfully referenced a famous scene of Winslet from the 2001 film 'Iris', joking, "When I saw her in [the film] and she took off all her clothes and jumped into that lake, I thought, 'Wow, I bet that lake is really cold.' And then I thought, 'Wow, there’s an actor without fear.'"
Witherspoon even hinted at their wild adventures together, teasing, "I can’t share any personal stories because they’re all too bawdy or tawdry or drunken to tell."
According to a fan site, some of the "embarrassing" stories included discussions about laser hair removal, pulling over on the freeway for an unknown reason, and "that really funny thing that happened when they were both in their underwear."

During a recent interview with People, Reese Witherspoon recalled a time she was asked to present an award to a fellow actress, whom she did not name, and said her speech was so embarrassing that they are no longer friends.
Witherspoon explained, "So this friend of mine—who I didn’t really know that well, but she was a very serious, proper actress—she asked me to give her an award. But I had never been to this award ceremony, so I thought it was like a roast. So I got up and I roasted her."

Unfortunately, the jokes didn’t land.
"The tone [of the event] was British and elegant and classy. And I was like, 'Remember the time we got laser hair removal?!'" she recalled with a laugh.
Realizing the mismatch, Witherspoon admitted, "I’m still embarrassed about it… I thought it was so funny and it was just, I had the wrong audience. It was pretty bad. Yeah. Not even kidding, she doesn't talk to me anymore. Oh well."
