LUMBER RIVER STATE PARK, NORTH CAROLINA: The father of the South Carolina pastor, whose wife was discovered fatally shot at a state park in North Carolina, described her as a "very, very sick woman" while defending his son against claims that he contributed to her suicide, as reported recently.
Reginald Miller, aged 75, stated that his son, John-Paul Miller, 44, was not involved in the death of his daughter-in-law, Mica Miller, 30, who died in Lumber River State Park on April 27.
Mica reportedly cried for several minutes before taking her own life from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, according to the sheriff's office.
Reginald Miller claims Mica Miller attempted suicide earlier
Reginald asserted that Mica was already mentally ill and had attempted suicide previously, even though Mica's family claims John-Paul, with whom she had filed for divorce, pushed her to the "brink."
“Mica was a very, very, sick young woman,” Reginald said in a statement to the Daily Mail. “All have been covered [up] to protect her memory.”
“‘I have a video of Mica where she tells last year how she took a gun to kill herself and pulled the trigger and the bullet locked in the gun,” he claimed.
Reginald, who has a history of legal issues related to fraud and public lewdness, also alleged that merely two weeks after Mica's marriage to John-Paul, his son intervened to prevent her from "shooting up the neighborhood."
“She spent the first three weeks in a mental facility, and all the times since then,” he claims. “Her family refused to believe how sick she was.”
Surveillance footage of Mica purchasing a gun in the hours before her death, along with a 911 call she made have been released and Reginald says the footage and call is proof that she was in a psychotic state before she ended her life.
Reginald also disputed the Robeson County Sheriff's Department's investigation, which concluded that at the time of Mica's death, Solid Rock Church pastor John-Paul was "romantically" involved with another woman.
Reginald Miller defends his son after accusations from Mica Miller's sister
Reginald defended his son one day after accusations from Mica's sister, Sierra Francis, who alleged that the pastor had abused his wife and sent threatening messages to her and her family.
“The proof is in the abuse,” Francis wrote on TikTok. “Police reports were filed when JP threatened his life, we did a wellness check. That is when he got mad. Police stated ‘when they arrived to perform a wellness check, he was loading Mica's belongings into his truck. he stated he was not suicidal.’ #justiceformica.”
Screenshots revealed by Francis displayed the messages that the pastor reportedly sent to his wife, who had saved his contact as "Honey Baby" on her phone.
“My blood is on you, and my kids will know. All you had to do was come home to me. But you don’t even care that much about me,” John-Paul allegedly wrote.
Mica Miller's sister claims she warned SC pastor might shoot her dead
A fisherman found Mica's belongings along the river in Lumber River State Park a few days after she served John-Paul with divorce papers. According to the Robeson County medical examiner, Mica committed suicide by shooting herself in the head.
An affidavit filed in Horry County Probate Court by Mica's younger sister, Sierra Francis, claims that she told her sister before she died that her husband might shoot her dead in the manner she was found in a park.
Following her death, the Robeson County Sheriff's Office has enlisted the assistance of the FBI and the US Attorney's Office in the investigation of Mica's suicide.
