LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jason Momoa hasn’t forgotten the pain of Mauians after the region suffered massive destruction due to severe wildfires recently.

The ‘Aquaman’ star is supporting the communities impacted by the natural calamity and is also sharing tips on how everyone can contribute as well.

“The biggest thing is to educate yourself,” the Hawaii-born actor began. Jason was born in Honolulu on the island of Oʻahu and raised in Iowa, suggesting that people who wish to help must do so while “having the proper respect.”

“I think that's the big thing in Hawaii. It's just respecting the culture, respecting the people who need the space,” he added.

Jason Momoa didn't visit Maui after wildfires erupted

He explained with his own example when he visited Maui after the fires. “I waited for my family to be invited in properly. Respect the culture,” he pressed.

The officially worst natural disaster in Hawaii state history pained the entire nation. Momoa then wrote on his Instagram post, “We are devastated and heartbroken for our friends and ‘ohana [family] on Maui who have been impacted by the recent wildfires.”

The 44-year-old also shared a link to the nonprofit ‘Aina Momona, which was raising money to support Maui locals.

“I've been doing everything from [my platforms] to go to People's Fund of Maui, because I know it's going… directly to families,” Momoa said while referring to support group started by Oprah Winfrey and Dwayne Johnson, which offers Lahaina and Kula residents $1,200 a month, as per People.

“When we were hurting, it was really beautiful to see everybody come together,” Momoa, who’s also contributing through other mediums further said, adding “I like being able to give something that people can buy, [or] share from afar.”

“Hawaii's been a big place to make movies, but not really to highlight Hawaiian stories. This has been my dream,” Momoa continued.

“To be able to get the money to pull off something at that level. Now, we've just got to get people to watch it," he added.

Dwayne Johnson is also actively involved in supporting affected locals

Earlier, Dwayne Johnson expressed his emotions on the devastation. “Heartbroken but our faith and mana is strong. First responders, health care teams, hotels, locals businesses, boots on the ground organizations and all our local heroes, stay strong - we love you and appreciate you," he said.

"All our local families, our ohana, our aiga, stay strong thru this devastating time. Resilience resolve is our DNA. Our ancestors are in our blood. This is who we are. This is what we do," he added.
