LA JOLLA, CALIFORNIA: The former girlfriend of the late Swedish DJ, Avicii, died due to a pulmonary embolism, a year after she announced herself “cancer-free”. Pulmonary embolism is a life-threatening condition in which one or more arteries in the lungs get blocked by a blood clot. 

Emily Goldberg was 34 when she breathed her last on April 3 in La Jolla, California, PEOPLE reported.

Her last share on Instagram, posted in May 2023, showed her lying on a hospital bed as she wrote, “I lived b***h.”

She added, “I have had cancer for the past year. I am now cancer-free.”

Emily Goldberg died 6 years after Avicii’s suicide

Goldberg’s death came six years after Avicii, whose real name was Tim Bergling, killed himself in 2018 in Muscat, Oman.

She and the music producer had been in a relationship from 2011 to 2013, as reported by Daily Mail.

Emily Goldberg was in shock after Avicii’s death

Following his suicide, Goldberg took to Instagram to express her sorrow.

Posting a series of pictures with him, she noted, “‘Come on babe, don’t give up on us. Choose me, and I’ll show you love.’ Those are lyrics from a song Tim wrote for me. I wish I could have lived up to them.”

She continued, “For the two years we were together, he was my closest confidante, and my best friend. Now I can’t look at Bear without knowing I’ll never see his face again."

“I’m still collecting my thoughts and thank you for all your kind words and texts.”

“Wake me up when it’s all over because I don’t want it to be real 💔 #ripavicii #avicii @avicii,” Goldberg added at the time.

Emily Goldberg was a 'vivacious and unique person’

It also shared, “Following graduation, she attended George Washington University and received a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Art History in 2012, making the Dean’s List. Her favorite artists were Louise Bourgeois and Cindy Sherman.”

“Emily had a particular fondness for animals, especially Pomeranian puppies, and spent many happy hours with her beloved dogs Bear and Kuma,” the obituary added.
