WASHINGTON, DC: Former independent presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy Jr claimed that his wife's response to his recent support of former president Donald Trump in the fight for the White House was "the opposite of encouraging."

Kennedy claimed on Tuesday, August 27, during his interview on TMZ Live that his wife, actress Cheryl Hines, is not a fan of Donald Trump and that she felt some "discomfort" by his backing of the former president.

RFK Jr says his wife Cheryl Hines 'is a lifelong Democrat'

“She is a lifelong Democrat and the idea of me supporting Donald Trump was, like I said, it was something she would have never imagined, something that she never wanted in her life,” Robert F Kennedy Jr said on Tuesday, per The Hill.

“I think it causes her a lot of discomfort and I’m very grateful to her for giving me support, but she was not somebody who was clamoring for this move. I would say the opposite is true,” he added.

The environmental attorney, who withdrew from consideration for president last week, claimed that Trump had contacted him soon after the Pennsylvania assassination attempt.

Hines urged Kennedy to speak with the Republican nominee. Kennedy claimed that the actress, who is most known for her part in 'Curb Your Enthusiasm', attended the meeting to ensure that no hurried decisions would be made.

Robert F Kennedy Jr said he had to "suppress some strong feelings" in response to Bradley Whitford's piece when questioned about it on Tuesday. However, he questioned why the actor chose to "bully women" rather than "challenge" him directly on the issue.

“It’s a template for bullying,” Kennedy said. “Here you have a guy and instead of challenging me, he’s attacking my wife,” he said. “Who would do that? What kind of person, what kind of man would do that?”

Internet calls out Cheryl Hines for being disappointed with RFK Jr

Netizens slammed the actress for being upset about Robert F Kennedy Jr's endorsement of Donald Trump.

One X user tweeted, "She's the one who told him to hear Trump out lmao." Another added, "Don’t seem that way since she pushed him to hear Trump out Kennedy claims that his wife was the reason he agreed to meet with Trump, which led directly to his endorsement of the former president."

"If she was uncomfortable she could have used her voice," remarked one, while someone else wrote, "SHE was the one who convinced him to hear what Trump had to say. She’s clearly the dumb one in that relationship."
