RFK Jr's attempt to offer new interpretation of MAGA after endorsing Trump backfires miserably
WASHINGTON, DC: Robert F Kennedy Jr's recent endorsement of Donald Trump has stirred controversy, especially after his attempt to redefine the meaning of the former president’s signature slogan, Make America Great Again (MAGA).
The former independent presidential candidate took to X, formerly known as Twitter, on Sunday, August 25, to share his reinterpretation of the slogan, traditionally seen as a rallying cry for turning back progress on various social and civil rights, as per The Hill.
What "MAGA" really means

The phrase has troubled liberals who think it is a call for a return to an America before civil rights, gay rights, and women's rights. But I have a more generous interpretation, one that is truer to my experience of Donald Trump as he is today. "Make…
Robert F Kennedy Jr offers new intepretation for 'Make America Great Again' slogan
In a post that aimed to shed new light on the often-criticized MAGA slogan, Robert F Kennedy Jr wrote, "The phrase has troubled liberals who think it is a call for a return to an America before civil rights, gay rights, and women’s rights," acknowledging the concerns many have about the implications of the phrase.
However, he quickly pivoted to offer what he described as a "more generous interpretation" of MAGA, claiming that his view aligns more closely with his understanding of Trump today.
According to Kennedy, the slogan 'Make America Great Again' recalls a time when America was "brimming with vitality, with a can-do spirit, with hope and a belief in itself."
He suggested that the America of the past, despite its flaws, was a nation that was beginning to confront its darker aspects while still being able to celebrate its successes.
"It was a nation of broad prosperity, the world’s most vibrant middle class, and an idealistic belief (though not consistently applied) in freedom, justice, and democracy," Kennedy continued.
He also highlighted America’s leadership in innovation, productivity, and technology during that period, as well as its status as the healthiest country in the world.
Kennedy emphasized that his understanding of MAGA comes not just from observation but from personal interactions with Trump and his supporters.
"I have talked to many Trump supporters. I have talked with his inner circle. I have talked to the man himself. This is the America they want to restore," he explained.
Pollsters within Trump’s campaign have reported a shift in Kennedy’s supporters, who are increasingly gravitating towards the former president.
Before Kennedy’s withdrawal from the race, he was polling at around 5% to 6% in key swing states such as Pennsylvania and Ohio—states that could prove crucial in the upcoming election.
Kennedy also recently mentioned that he has had extensive conversations with Trump about forming a "unity government" that would focus on the issues central to his campaign.

"It means you sold out a career of environmental activism for a fellow sex abusing aristocrat who calls it 'climate hoax.' You announced you could be bought, and you sold to the *only* bidder. You don’t care about gun violence, abortion rights, organized labor, voting rights, or even your stupid anti-vax nonsense. You never believed in anything but your own privilege. Go take your rightful place in history. It’ll be the first time you achieved anything all on your own," wrote one person.
