WASHINGTON, DC: Rich Lowry’s op-ed on Donald Trump has turned several heads.

On Monday, August 26, the former editor wrote a piece for The New York Times, suggesting that the former president continue attacking rival Kamala Harris as "weak."

Former President Donald Trump listens as his attorney Todd Blanche speaks during a press conference at 40 Wall Street after a pre-trial hearing on March 25, 2024 in New York City. Judge Juan Merchan scheduled Trump's criminal trial to begin on April 15, which would make it the first criminal prosecution of a former American president. Trump was charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records last year, which prosecutors say was an effort to hide a potential sex scandal, both before and after the 2016 election. What did Rich Lowry say in his column on Donald Trump?

In his article titled "Trump can win on character," Rich Lowry wrote, “Presidential races are won and lost on character as much as the issues, and often the issues are proxies for character.”

He added, "Everything has to be connected to the deeper case that Ms Harris is weak, a phony, and doesn’t truly care about the country or the middle class."

Slamming Lowry’s article, University of Pennsylvania geophysicist Professor Michael E Mann said, "This is what lowlife Rich Lowry (editor in chief of the odious National Review) and the New York Times have both been reduced to."

He also called Lowry, "He's an a------," claiming that he personally knows the author.

Health economist Eric Feigl-Ding also shared his opinion on Lowry’s piece and wrote, “This is a completely real NYT oped headline. The nytimes has sunk to a new low."

Netizens mock Rich Lowry's column on Donald Trump

Internet questioned Rich Lowry's claim that Donald Trump can benefit by attacking Kamala Harris with personal remarks. A few accused him of suddenly turning into a supporter of the Republican presidential nominee.

A user slammed Lowry on X, "Remember Lowry gushing over Sarah Palin. That at least took a few weeks to look out of touch."

"Recycled gruel - "no primary wins, changed positions from 6 yrs ago" - amazing that a publisher still takes Lowry's calls," another user said.

Another said, "I’m old enough to remember when RichLowry was a “Never Trumper.” What a joke."

One opined, "Both candidates have bad character. Neither of them would be wise to attack the other on that issue."

"This is the most ridiculous opinion piece I have ever read. Rich Lowry shames the Republican party with his drivel. One more conservative is bowing down and kissing Donald's feet," another trolled Lowry.

"Kamala is a drunk. Maybe sit this one out chief," a person wrote.
