Rihanna clash with trolls over immigration and citizenship
Though ineligible to vote herself as a Barbados citizen, Rihanna used the hashtags #votecauseicant and #TanSuitSeason, hinting at her support for Vice President Kamala Harris.
“When protecting p*****s and firing p*****s can happen all in one vote,” she captioned the post.
However, not all followers appreciated Rihanna’s message as some raised issues related to citizenship and voting rights, questioning why she was posting on US politics.
One user wrote, “Why should you be able to if you are not a legal citizen?” and Rihanna quickly retorted, “Ew! Hate an illiterate a*s ho.”
Another user accused her of attempting illegal voting and called for her arrest. The 'Diamond' singer shut down the comment, replying, “Shut up Karen.”
In response to one fan who claimed the singer could “set up her paper for voting as a migrant,” Rihanna responded, “I LOVE my Bajan passport! I came here to work and pay taxes! You’re welcome.”
Rihanna speaks out against political stances
Rihanna did not shy away from fans who disagreed with her endorsement of Kamala Harris, including one who said, “I voted for closed borders, deportations, and staying out of foreign conflicts.”
The singer’s response was direct as she wrote, “You’re f****d! And so is the America you dream of. Hope you don’t have to find out the hard way.”
One critic commented that celebrities should “stick to music” instead of posting political opinions.
Rihanna’s fiery response included a reference to the January 6 Capitol attack, commenting, “Where were you in Jan 6 sis? Stick to your discounted crotch. We out here fighting for its rights!”
Rihanna's playful responses amid political tensions
Despite the heated exchanges, Rihanna also maintained her humor.
When a fan asked if she had successfully “snuck in” to vote, the Fenty Beauty founder responded, “Not yet sis! But I’m sleeping outside to make sure the navy shows up.”
The 'We Found Love' shares two sons with rapper A$AP Rocky, both of whom are US citizens, adding personal stakes to her vocal support for US voting rights, according to Daily Mail.
