Rita Ora engages in playful concert etiquette debate on 'The View' with co-hosts
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: British singer-songwriter Rita Ora joined co-hosts Joy Behar, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro, and Sunny Hostin at the Hot Topics table on the February 17 episode of 'The View.'
While discussing various subjects, including her new music deal and joining the show 'The Masked Singer' as a judge, Ora engaged in a playful argument with Behar and Navarro over her opinion of what to do at a concert.
Debate over concert etiquette sparks playful banter
Behar brought up the topic, recounting a recent concert she attended.
"People kept standing up in front of me, it was annoying," stated that 81-year-old comedian. "I mean, I don't mind if they stand up when it's a really, you know,... (does a dancing move)... but during a ballet they had to stand up? You like that?"
"It's a slow song," said Hostin off-screen, to which Behar assented.
Ora, who was visibly out of breath trying to control her laughter, responded to Behar saying, "You know what I love? I love going to a concert, right? But I feel like if you don't stand up, I don't really know why you're even... You might as well just watch it at home, right?"
"I'm sorry, I know you (Behar) are the queen..." she continued as everyone shared a laugh.
"Rita, the thing is you just passed your messy twenties, you are now in your thirties. When you are in your hot flash fifties...standing up for three hours is a lot," Navarro later told the pop star.
"Comfy shoes! Comfy shoes!" Ora tried to suggest, but Navarro put her down saying, "Oh no, we don't do comfy shoes."
Ora acknowledged that people naturally want to see what's happening in front of them, and standing could indeed be somewhat problematic in that regard. However, she made it clear that she still preferred standing during concerts regardless.
Rita Ora reflects on achieving ownership of master recording in a new album deal
During an earlier segment of the show, Behar noted that Ora's recent deal for her third album, released in 2023, granted her ownership of the master recording.
As everyone congratulated her, Ora shared, "We're in a time now when there are so many different ways you can go, which is amazing because obviously, the dream is to be able to own what you worked so hard on ... instead of kind of giving 80% or so - I won't get into numbers 'cause it's super boring."
"But in reality, if you're in a space where you can make those choices, you should really try and take that leap because you get in control. But then you have to be ready to do all the work, keeping the team elevated, keeping everybody inspired, and having the ability to say ... sometimes ... you may not get the result you want but at least you're doing it your way," she added.
"It took me a decade to get there," she continued, "but I am really excited for this, sort of new era in my life. In my twenties ... I was super happy just to be in the room, and it's still am, but now ... I know a bit more about what goes on."
"You deserve to be in the room now," complimented Hostin in the end.
