'Riverdale' star Vanessa Morgan engaged to basketball player James Karnik: 'Best Christmas present ever'

BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA: ‘Riverdale’ star Vanessa Morgan and James Karnik took to Instagram jointly on Tuesday, December 24, to share that they're engaged, as per Page Six.

Posting a carousel of their photos from the proposal, Morgan wrote, "Merry Christmas Eve from me and my fiancée 😭💍🎁." 

The pictures showed the 32-year-old actress and the basketball player sharing kisses as he put a Brilliant Earth 4.64-carat oval-shaped engagement ring on her finger at the Glow Langley Festival in Canada on December 21.

Vanessa Morgan gushes over James Karnik's magical proposal

Speaking with People, Vanessa Morgan shared, "James knows how much I love Christmas, especially all the festive lights, so he took me to the Langley Glow Light Festival."

"We were walking around, and I honestly thought he was going to propose on Christmas morning, so it came as a complete shock when it happened," she explained.

"James had just injured his foot — we weren't sure if it was a break or a sprain at the time, but he was on crutches," the 'Wild Cards' actress revealed, before noting, "I asked him if he was sure he wanted to walk around on crutches, and he said, 'For you, I’ll do it. I know how much you love this.' It seemed a little suspicious, but I didn’t think much of it."

The publication reported that a photographer was traveling with the pair incognito to capture their special moment.

Elaborating further, Morgan said, "Then, in the middle of all the lights and people, James put down his crutches to 'adjust his shoe,' and that’s when I started to suspect something was up. He dropped his crutches, got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him."

"When I saw the ring, it was just stunning, and in that magical moment, with the lights all around us, it felt like the best Christmas present ever," the 34-year-old gushed.

Meanwhile, Karnik told People, "Excited for this next step in life and couldn’t be happier with the person I’m doing it with."

Earlier this year, in July, the couple welcomed their first child together, daughter Kaia Autumn Skye. Morgan also shares a son, River, three, with her ex-husband, Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Michael Kopech.
