MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: In a press conference in New York City, on Tuesday, May 28, actor Robert De Niro criticized former president Donald Trump, calling him a "danger" to Americans.

The event took place outside the Manhattan courtroom where Trump's closing arguments in his hush money trial were being delivered.

Robert De Niro joins the Biden-Harris campaign

The actor recently provided the voice for a Biden-Harris campaign ad dubbed, 'Snapped'. It slammed Trump as "out of control" and "threatening to be a ‘dictator’ to terminate the constitution."

“I hope this new ad campaign reaches outside the bubble to remind supporters of what a danger he is to our lives," De Niro, who has been critical of Trump, said.

"This is not a threat. This is our reality. And that’s why I’ve joined the Biden-Harris campaign, because the only way to preserve our freedoms and hold on to our humanity is to vote for Joe Biden for president,” De Niro said during the press conference according to Fox News.

The actor was accompanied by Michael Tyler, the Biden campaign’s communications director, and law enforcement officers Michael Fanone and Harry Dunn.

Robert De Niro says Donald Trump wants to destroy the city, country, and the world

De Niro continued to express his disapproval of Trump. He stated, “Donald Trump wants to destroy not only the city, but the country. And eventually he could destroy the world."

"I owe this city a lot. And that’s why it’s so weird that Donald Trump is just across the street because he doesn’t belong in my city. I don’t know where he belongs, but he certainly doesn’t belong here," De Niro said.

The report, however, said, De Niro was shouted at by protesters at the start of the press conference.

Trump faces 34 counts of falsifying business records, with prosecutors focusing on a $130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels.

Donald Trump's campaign advisor labels Robert De Niro 'washed up actor'

The Trump campaign responded to De Niro’s comments through senior advisor Jason Miller, who criticized De Niro as a “washed up actor," according to the report.

“Joe Biden is losing nationally, he’s losing in every single battleground state. And President Trump’s numbers continue to rise, the best that Biden can do is roll out a washed up actor,” Miller said.

Trump himself commented on the trial, saying, “Tuesday marks a dangerous day for America,” as the jury hears closing arguments.

MAGA supporters unimpressed with Robert De Niro's remarks on Donald Trump

The actor was largely rebuked by Trump supporters online for calling Trump a danger to the world.

"More accurately, he read from a script, and got heckled by the crowd," wrote one on X. One more said, "I’d love him say that to his face!"

"Robert De Niro convinced a total of 0 people to vote for Biden today," wrote one more. A video also showed him getting shouted at by MAGA supporters calling him a "washed out" actor following which he responded by swearing in an apparent meltdown and calling them "you are gangsters."

"I think everyone would be happy if he moved to Italy," wrote a Trump supporter.

In one more video, he was seen being "chased out" by hat-wearing MAGA supporters calling him a "traitor."

"De Niro being chased out of his own press conference is epic. 'You’re a traitor!'" wrote the one who shared the video clip.

"Robert De Niro thinks he is some sort of gangster tough guy. He is more like a deranged clown," wrote one more. "Robert De Niro is an idiot, plain and simple, wrote another.
