MANHATTAN, NEW YORK CITY: In recent news, Robert Downey Jr won Best Supporting Actor for his role in 'Oppenheimer' at the Golden Globes.

The versatile actor opened up about his acceptance speech on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live', talking about how he expressed gratitude to his wife, Susan Downey and mentioned taking a beta-blocker, suggesting it would make delivering his speech "a breeze."

During a conversation between Kimmel and Downey Jr, Kimmel mentioned the latter's Golden Globe moment on the night of January 9. Kimmel claimed to have some inside information, stating that there were rumors of a unanimous victory for Robert Downey Jr, with "all the votes" going to him and "none to the other actors."

During the conversation, Kimmel mentioned that winning with a unanimous vote "must have felt good," but he humorously added that the other "nominees had probably forgotten about it already."

The host then brought up Downey's mention of taking a beta blocker in his acceptance speech, expressing curiosity about that statement.

Downey said, "I just dropped a beta blocker, so this will be a breeze now. Yeah, I should have gotten some of that action. A billion-dollar moment, and it just went right by me".

Kimmel replied, "You need to make an endorsement deal with a pharmaceutical company. The next time you mention a drug on the air, cash in on it!," mentioning that they can be fun occasionally but questioning their reliability.

Downey responded, stating that they are indeed "okay to take" precisely because they may not always have a noticeable effect. Despite his confident image, he admitted to getting nervous and starstruck.

The actor explained that "beta blockers do have an effect," describing their function as taking the edge off, particularly helpful if you might feel anxious or panicked, such as when "your name is called during a Golden Globe nomination," before proceeding to talk about his new book. 

Downey's book is 'a cookbook for people who don't cook'

Moving on with their conversation, Downey and Kimmel discussed the former's book written by a so-called "super genius" who has authored numerous bestsellers, providing interesting factoids.

Kimmel asked if Downey cooks, to which he responded, "No Jimmy, I don't cook. I have a chef." Downey then mentioned the book titled 'Cool Food' a "cookbook for people who don't cook," with quick and easy recipes.



 

The duo then joked about the environmental impact of making cookbooks, with Downey mentioning that "the book is small. It took less material to make the book."

Robert Downey Jr also promoted his movie 'Oppenheimer', "returning to theaters and IMAX this month and is available on digital and 4K," along with his book, published by Blackstone Publishing Inc, set to be released on January 23.
