The 35-year-old actress and director responded to a post on Sunday, August 11, that suggested the late actor had a pet monkey. She also addressed what she called a "BS" rumor that was going around the internet regarding her late father.

The 'Mrs Doubtfire' actor was only 63 years old when he died by suicide on August 11, 2014; yet because of the characters he portrayed in films and his own personality, he still inspires admirers worldwide.

The original image of Robin smiling with his "pet monkey" perched on his shoulder was posted on X (formerly Twitter) on August 10 along with the statement, "One of the last photos of a gem of a man, with his pet monkey, taken a few days before he committed suicide by hanging at the age of 63."

The picture had received hundreds of likes and retweets in addition to numerous comments from admirers honoring the 'Good Will Hunting' star.

Zelda, on the other hand, disputed the assertion made in the post and went so far as to imply that it might have been produced by an artificial intelligence system.

The actor-director reshared the post to call attention to it, stating, "It’s been brought to my attention some probably AI written BS like this is going viral."

Zelda continued by emphasizing that Williams "didn't own a pet monkey" and denounced anyone who supported keeping wild creatures as pets.

"Dad didn’t own a pet monkey, NO ONE should, and if you’re ever tempted to, support your local exotic animal rescues instead," she added.

She went on, "That is his Night at the Museum costar, who now lives at one," alluding to Crystal, the monkey that portrayed Dexter in the Robin-starring 'Night at the Museum' movie.

Zelda clarified that the photograph of her father "is a real picture" in the post's comments section, adding, "It's just not the last picture."

The late actor had Zelda and a second son, Cody, 31, with his second wife Marsha Garces, and an older son, Zak, 40, with his first wife Valerie Velardi, per People.

Zelda also addressed remarks made on social media about her father in a follow-up post on the anniversary of her father's death on August 11.

She said, "Since more completely false or badly researched posts are likely to go viral on Dad’s death anniversary, maybe just assume they’re all BS (they usually are) … I sure as hell will ♥️".

Internet supports Zelda Williams as she debunks rumors about Robin Williams

Social media users flocked to the comment section of Zelda's clarification post to praise her and show their support for clearing the air surrounding the beloved actor.

One X user wrote, "Your father was and will forever be a national treasure to us all, so deeply sorry you have people like that who’ll bring up your trauma for engagement and clickbait, praying for your family".

A second user added, "I loved your Dad like he was mine and am sorry that delusional people keep trying to change his story. Much love to you."

"I used to run into your dad around SF, especially on clement st. If there was ever a place for a pet monkey, it was around there and I never saw one. I'm sorry this BS is happening," chimed in another.

"I saw that pic and I was like “THAT’S CRYSTAL” . Sorry you gotta deal with stuff like this dude," remarked one.

Another added, "I really wish they would just leave your father alone and let you rest. You don't deserve to have the stress of having to defend his legacy. Wishing you and your family the best."
