WASHINGTON, DC: Actor and comedian Russell Brand has expressed confusion over why any freedom-loving American would vote for President Joe Biden instead of former President Donald Trump in the upcoming election.

In a new episode of his podcast 'Stay Free with Russell Brand,' scheduled to premiere on Friday, June 7, Brand engages in a wide-ranging interview with model, author, and RNC spokeswoman Elizabeth Pipko. The pair discuss Trump's trial and subsequent conviction, among other topics.

Russell Brand criticizes liberals and defends Donald Trump in upcoming election

In a preview clip obtained exclusively by Fox, Brand, known for his vocal discontent with the political system, shares his thoughts on the election.

"In a straight choice between Donald Trump and Joe Biden, if you care about democracy, if you care about freedom, I don’t know how you could do anything other than vote for Donald Trump for precisely the reasons that they claim that you can’t," Brand tells Pipko.

The England native continues, "They act as if a vote for Donald Trump is almost like you’re directly voting for Armageddon, like you see hysterical performances outside of courtrooms, endless MSNBC bombast. But I’m starting to think that no, a greater threat to democracy is this kind of technological feudalism, that tells you that it cares about you and that it’s protecting vulnerable people, all the while increasing censorship, increasing the funding of wars, increasing the division between ordinary Americans."

Brand, a long-standing opponent of censorship, expresses his concern over the disdain and "snobbery" among liberals towards Trump supporters. He blames Trump opponents for criminalizing the former president through what he terms the "weaponization of the legal system".

"For a long time, Elizabeth, I’ve been concerned about the snobbery and the contempt and condemnation in which people that support Donald Trump are plainly held by his detractors," Brand says.

"And this is while you have an administration that’s emulating his policies, plagiarizing from Donald Trump, while simultaneously criminalizing him from the weaponization of the legal system."

"The idea of this…Orwellian nightmare continuing all the while they're telling you that they're helping you, is a far greater threat than their constant portrayal of Trump as a mad strongman figure, a kind of twenty-first century reiteration of the despotism of the last century," Brand stated.

"For me, what we are facing now is a bigger threat than that."

Internet reacts to Russell Brand's stance on Joe Biden vs Donald Trump

Russell Brand's remark that any "freedom-loving" American would chosse Trump over Biden in this election elicited a wide range of opinions online.

A user tweeted, "Trump focuses on freedom and democracy, unlike Biden’s restrictive policies."

Another said, "Brand is pretty legit."

A third mockingly said, "As stated, he is a comedian."

"He’s not wrong," claimed a user.

Another chimed, "Donald Trump defends free speech and challenges biased media. Biden's policies often seem to stifle free expression."
