MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: Former president Donald Trump's recent remarks regarding the jury in his hush money trial have stirred controversy and legal concerns amid his conviction on May 30 for falsifying business records.

Trump's comments, made in an interview with Newsmax, have sparked debate over a potential violation of the gag order imposed by Judge Juan Merchan.

Donald Trump may have potentially violated a gag order

Donald Trump expressed his apprehension about the jury by stating, "Mother Teresa couldn't get a fair trial here — I've said that. I never saw a glimmer of a smile from the jury."

"This was a venue that was very unfair — a tiny fraction of the people are Republicans. And it's very unfair, and then we had a judge who was very unfair," he added.

The dissemination of Trump's interview clip on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) by MeidasTouch has intensified scrutiny, with users highlighting the potential breach of the gag order. His subsequent posts on the Truth Social account discussing the jury have also raised red flags, as they contravene the order prohibiting public comments about trial participants.

Speaking on MeidasTouch's 'Legal AF' podcast, legal analyst Karen Friedman Agnifilo expressed concern over Trump's remarks, suggesting that the judge may take action against such comments directed at a juror.

"I think the judge is going to go rip s--- because you cannot say anything like that about a juror," she said.

Amid the controversy, there has been uncertainty regarding the validity of the gag order in recent days. Trump himself acknowledged the order's existence, referring to it as a "nasty gag order" in comments to reporters on Friday, May 31, where he also refrained from using the name of his former fixer and criminal witness Michael Cohen due to the order.
