ARAPAHOE, COLORADO: Russell Wilson and the Pittsburgh Steelers ended their season on a tough note, suffering a five-game losing streak followed by a Wild Card playoff loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

The offseason started on an even more heartbreaking note for Wilson and his wife, Ciara, as they mourned the loss of their beloved dog, Prince.

Russell Wilson shares heartfelt tribute to dog

The 12-year-old Great Dane, who had been with Russell Wilson since his rookie NFL season, died after a long and cherished life. Prince had overcome cancer twice, making his journey all the more remarkable.

Wilson took to Instagram to share the sad news with fans, posting a series of photos of Prince over the years.

In his heartfelt tribute, he wrote, "Prince, 12 years ago you came into my life. I got you my rookie year & you have been a blessing to our family with so many memories, hugs, and kisses from our 4 kids and us."

"You will forever be a part of us. Today was a hard day. But you overcame cancer 2x and lived 12 years when most live 6. Heaven got a good one! Forever the Prince of Peace. Love you," wrote Wilson.

The post featured moments from their life together, including an image with Ciara and the children. 

Ciara Wilson honors dog Prince's memory

Ciara Wilson also shared her grief on Instagram, posting several photos of Prince alongside her tribute.

"Forever with us. Forever in our hearts. Forever Thankful for the amazing memories you gave us. We will miss you so much and we will always love you Prince!" she wrote.

The Great Dane had been a part of their family long before Wilson and Ciara started dating in 2015, according to Hello!

The couple married in 2016 and are parents to Amora, 13 months, Sienna, seven, and Win, four, as well as Future, 10, from Ciara’s previous relationship.
