Ryan Gosling earns his first Emmy nomination for hosting 'Saturday Night Live' viral episode
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Ryan Gosling has earned his first Emmy nomination, thanks to his ‘Saturday Night Live’ hosting on NBC.
The ‘Barbie’ star, who hosted the show on April 13, was a memorable one with the ‘Close Encounters’ sketch which comprised of 'SNL' cast member Kate McKinnon along with a Gosling-Emily Blunt 'Barbenheimer', a musical number to Taylor Swift’s 'All Too Well', and the viral 'SNL' sketch of the season - 'Beavis & Butt-Head.'
Ryan Gosling's 'SNL' episode broke many records
The episode, which earned Gosling a nomination in the 'Guest Actor In a Comedy Series' category, went viral and was viewed by over 17 million people on YouTube.
For many reasons that made the show a hit, the 'Beavis & Butthead' skit showcasing the stunning transformation of Gosling and 'SNL' cast member Mikey Day into popular MTV characters was an important one.
The other nominations which the 'SNL' episode won include Directing For a Variety Show, Hairstyling For A Variety, Nonfiction Or Reality Program, Makeup For A Variety, Nonfiction Or Reality Program, and Music Direction.
The musical guest for the evening was Chris Stapleton who alone drew 8.9 million viewers after seven days, according to NBCUniversal.
According to the statistics, with the 18 to 49 demo, the episode reached a 2.0 rating and made it the largest seven-day audience since Billie Eilish hosted it in December 2021.
It was also the best demo performance since Dave Chappelle’s last hosting gig in November 2022, reports Deadline.
Interestingly, the Gosling-hosted show made history by becoming the most-watched episode of ‘SNL’ ever on Peacock in terms of streaming.
On YouTube, the plays from the episode garnered over 56 million views at the time of filing this report.
