LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Actor Ryan O'Neal, who gained fame on television's 'Peyton Place' and went on to become a major star in the 1970s with roles in movies such as 'Love Story,' 'Paper Moon,' and 'Barry Lyndon,' died on Friday, December 8. He was 82.

The 'Love Story' actor, who has four children, listed his troubled son Redmond O'Neal -- whom he shared with the late actress Farrah Fawcett -- as the only beneficiary of his trust.

Did Ryan O'Neal leave a will behind?

According to Radar Online, the late star Ryan O'Neal intended to leave his wealth to his 38-year-old son Redmond, who was charged with attempted murder during a 2018 crime spree.

However, it is not known whether the 'Love Story' actor modified his trust before his death, which was announced on December 8 by his son Patrick on Instagram.

Farrah's longterm partner filed a lawsuit against The University of Texas shortly after she died in 2009, claiming ownership of a multimillion-dollar Andy Warhol picture.

Ryan's will, 'The O'Neal Living Trust,' was an essential piece of evidence in the 2013 pretrial discovery phase, clarifying whether or not Farrah left the valuable artwork to her alma mater.

Upon closer examination of the legal paperwork, it became clear that the sole child listed as a beneficiary of the trust was Redmond, son of Farrah and Ryan.

Who did Ryan O'Neal leave his property to?

The actor from 'Love Story' had four children. He had daughter Tatum and son Griffin with his first wife, Joanna Moore; son Patrick with his second wife, Leigh Taylor-Young; and son Redmond, his youngest, with late actor Farrah Fawcett.

Though, Ryan's troubled son has been listed as the sole beneficiary of the O'Neal Living Trust, it is not known to whom the late 'Paper Moon' actor left his property.

Ryan, however, had a tense relationship with son Redmond, who spent the majority of his life struggling with drugs and mental health issues.

Despite the late actor's assurance to Farrah that he would raise their only child, their relationship remained tumultuous.

Ryan's document stated in 2013, "The Trustee shall distribute all of my tangible personal property, except my two Ernie Barnes paintings, to Redmond."

Net worth of trust fund

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Ryan's $30 million net worth comprises his $5 million beachfront home in Malibu, an Andy Warhol picture of his partner Farrah Fawcett valued at $24 million in 2018, and $1 million in profits. The trust fund was set up for Fawcett's son Redmond under her will. The $4.5 million trust fund has several limitations and requirements. Redmond only has access to the interest the trust generates; the trustee still has control over the money, per ZacJohnson.com

Redmond O'Neal declared mentally 'incompetent' and not fit to stand trial

Redmond ran into trouble with the law a couple of times before the revelation of the living trust. He was placed under arrest in 2011 for possessing heroin; in 2015, he broke the terms of his probation and was taken to prison. Redmond was later released in 2016.

Redmond was taken into custody in May 2018 after he robbed a 7-Eleven with weapons. He was implicated in a series of stabbing incidents that left five persons wounded while he was in police custody.

Moreover, Redmond was accused of attempting to kill two victims who suffered severe injuries.

In 2020, Redmond was charged with two charges of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of making criminal threats, one count of brandishing a knife, one count of battery, and one crime of attempted murder.

Redmond told Radar Online in 2019, "Fighting with my father, being kicked out and living on the streets, going to jail, being put in a psychiatric ward, being embarrassed all the time, just because of who my parents are."

Redmond was deemed unfit to face trial and mentally "incompetent". He was diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia.

Neither Redmond's family member nor his father Ryan had visited him in jail at the time. Redmond was moved to a state mental institution, where he is still being treated.
