Sabrina Carpenter's rejection by 'The Conners' hailed by Whitney Cummings: 'Thank God we said no'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Sabrina Carpenter would not have been Sabrina Carpenter if she had gotten a role in ‘The Conners’, as claimed by Whitney Cummings.
The actress recently spoke with PEOPLE at ELLE’s Women in Hollywood Celebration, where she discussed the biggest lessons she learned from her time in the entertainment industry.
She shared, “This business is mostly rejection.” But the ‘Studio 666’ actress noted that rejection is not always a bad thing.
Whitney Cummings is thankful Sabrina Carpenter was not given a role
Whitney Cummings then went on to mention Carpenter who was not given a role on the ABC sitcom ‘The Conners’, which according to her was a blessing in disguise.
She said, “Sabrina Carpenter auditioned ... and it wasn't the right fit. She got a rejection that day when we were casting the daughter.”
“And by the way, thank God we said no to her because she'd be stuck on a sitcom set and not being Sabrina Carpenter,” the 42-year-old comedian asserted.
Carpenter has worked in many movies and shows but she got more fame because of her music with hits, like ‘Espresso,’ ‘Please Please Please,’ and ‘Taste.’
Cummings continued, “I think that we're still trained in our society to want to win and get a yes. Sometimes a yes is the worst thing you can get, because then you're stuck on the wrong show for 7 years. You're in the wrong thing.”
Whitney Cummings reveals great advice she received from another woman
The ‘2 Broke Girls’ star also disclosed to PEOPLE “the best advice she’s ever received” from another woman.
“Get your personal life in order, [save] the drama for your work — you know, have a boring life,” she revealed.
Recalling her past, Cummings added, “I'm with a man that I think I need to rescue. I'm dating drug addicts. I'm not able to set boundaries. The idea is, like, to not drain yourself, you know? … Make sure you focus on your personal life enough too, when all this [professional success] happens.”
Sabrina Carpenter was a ‘bit of emotional wreck’
This came after the ‘Nonsense’ singer opened up about her initial years in the music world.
She said, as per Irish News, “For a long time, I was constantly guided and misguided. I’m so grateful for all of those times where I was led astray, because now I’m a lot more equipped going into situations where I have to trust my own instincts.”
The Pennsylvania-born singer shared, “My last album was f**king sad, straight up. I wanted to make sure to still be young while I’m young. To go through your life trying to be a little robot angel, you’re going to have a lot of regrets later.”
“That’s also why during that time of my life I was a little bit of an emotional wreck,” Carpenter added.
