'They’re really annoying, especially in the workplace'

During the interview with The Guardian, the Academy Award winning actress said, not without humor, "They’re really annoying, especially in the workplace."

Speaking about the generation that was born predominantly in the time period between late 1990s to early 2010s, 'The Silence of the Lambs' actress said, “They’re like, ‘Nah, I’m not feeling it today, I’m gonna come in at 10.30 am'."

She also opened up about the generation's alleged proclivity toward simplifying grammatical rules, saying, "Or in emails, I’ll tell them, ‘This is all grammatically incorrect, did you not check your spelling?’ And they’re like, ‘Why would I do that, isn’t that kind of limiting?’”

Foster, who has two sons in their early 20s, claimed she is quite familiar with the ways of this generation because of her sons. She added that she can help the stars of this generation.

The 'Taxi Driver' star added, “They need to learn how to relax, how to not think about it so much, how to come up with something that’s theirs,” before adding, “I can help them find that, which is so much more fun than being, with all the pressure behind it, the protagonist of the story.”

She further added that she does “a lot of reaching out to young actresses” as she “had a hard time growing up” and wants them to have a better experience.

Internet is split over Jodie Foster's views

Foster's comments divided the Internet as social media users belonging from different generations joined the conversation to share their views.

One of the users observed, "“Generations” is a false construct. There is endless human variation in every age group. Divisive silliness."

Someone else said, "Correct statement, we were really bad mentors and created a generation that is annoying to work with."

"97% of gen Z cannot pass a simple pre-employment mechanical skills test," added another.

One user explained, "Jodie Foster shares her perspective, noting that working with Generation Z can be "really annoying." The comment likely reflects the challenges and differences in collaboration across generations in the workplace."

"Tbh for everyone is genuinely interested to work for no matter what age," said one user while placed a neutral opinion.

Another fan added, "The ‘to work with’ is redundant."

"Millennials finally looking good by comparison," remarked another.

"They can not work minus a template, and their protective parents standing right next to them," said someone else.

Another fan nodded in affirmation, "I completely understand where Jodie Foster is coming from. Sometimes, working with the younger generation can be a bit challenging due to their different perspectives and approaches. Kudos to her for expressing her honesty!"

"We raised them. It’s our fault," said another fan on Facebook.

Someone else remarked esoterically, "Agism in workplaces between boomers and gen z is rife, unpleasant and confronting. Retirement feels like an excellent option."

Another fan said, "She’ll complain about young people but expect them to drop everything to help her use air drop on her phone! 😂🤷🏻‍♂️."

"Boomers are mad Gen z would rather do things a more efficient way rather than the way boomers have always known," said another fan.

"Same for every generation, nothing has changed," observed someone else.

"Every generation has their thoughts about another because its different. The difference is made by each generation itself," noted another fan.
