WASHINGTON, DC: Former Donald Trump aide Sarah Matthews has publicly criticized Nikki Haley for dropping the 2024 presidential race and endorsing the former president.

During an interview with MSNBC, Matthews expressed her disappointment with the former United Nations Ambassador choosing to vote for Trump rather than lead a post-Trump Republican party, according to The Hill.

Sarah Matthews says Nikki Haley chose to 'bend the knee' for Donald Trump

Speaking to Jen Psaki on Sunday, May 26, Matthews weighed in on Haley's endorsement of the ex-president.

“She was building momentum, and she really could have been, maybe in a post-Trump Republican Party, been the leader, but instead, she chooses to bend the knee, kiss the ring, like every other Republican seems to do,” said Matthews.

She further referenced Trump's own remarks on Republican endorsements, noticing his satisfaction with their loyalty.

“I mean, Donald Trump said it best: They always bend the knee. And it’s just disappointing, but again, not surprising,” she said.

Despite Haley's rivalry with Trump over the presidential race before she dropped her candidacy in March, she declared her support for the 77-year-old politician during a speech at the conservative Hudson Institute.

Haley's endorsement of the former POTUS has been met with criticism from several former Trump aides and Republicans.

While former Rep Adam Kinzinger (R-III) called Haley's decision to endorse Trump "pathetic," former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci said she had "no backbone."

As MEAWW previously reported, following Haley's endorsement, Trump suggested she could join his team.

"Well, I think she's gonna be on our team because we have a lot of the same ideas, the same thoughts," said the former president who called her a "capable person."

Sarah Matthews opines Nikki Haley could have declined to endorse Donald Trump

Matthews, along with other former Trump supporters had hoped to see Haley take on Biden in the fall.

The former spokesperson to Trump said that Haley could have declined to endorse Trump.

“She has criticized Donald Trump time and time again. It goes all the way back to 2016 and she’s flip-flopped numerous times on it," said Matthews.

Referencing Trump's loyalists, Matthews said, “I think they have already rejected her."

She also noted that supporters of Haley were really excited to see her challenge the former president.

However, Matthews remains uncertain whether these voters will follow Haley's lead in supporting Trump or choose to distance themselves from him.
