SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS: San Antonio police have reportedly made two arrests in connection with the double murder of pregnant Texas teen Savanah Soto, who was just a day away from inducing labor, and her boyfriend Matthew Guerra.
Father and son duo Ramon Preciado, 53, and Christopher Preciado, 19, were arrested on Wednesday night, January 3, shedding light on a horrifying narrative of a "narcotics-related deal that went bad," The Messenger reported.
What are the charges against Christopher and Ramon Preciado?
Christopher Preciado, who is accused of killing the couple, faces a capital murder charge, while his father Ramon is charged with abuse of a corpse for allegedly assisting his son in hiding the bodies. The authorities emphasized that more charges are expected to be brought against both men.
The investigation took a significant turn as Savanah's recovered cell phone emerged as a key piece of evidence leading to the arrests
. The father and son duo are the sole suspects sought in connection with the case, with police revealing that the couple was tragically killed on December 21, just before midnight.
What happened to Savannah Soto and Matthew Guerra?
Savanah Nicole Soto had gone missing late last month, raising concerns among her family, especially as her due date approached.
The grim discovery of the bodies occurred inside Matthew's gray 2013 Kia Optima at a Northwest Side apartment complex on December 26.
The tragedy struck just a day before the 18-year-old was scheduled to undergo labor induction to welcome their first child into the world.
Last week, the Bexar County Medical Examiner's office confirmed Savanah's cause of death as a gunshot wound to the head and ruled it as a homicide, while Matthew's death was classified as a contact wound to the head.
Detectives traced phone and located suspect's vehicle before arrest
Further, Christopher and Ramon were identified as persons of interest last week, prompting an extensive search by authorities.
The breakthrough came as detectives, aided by the United States Secret Service, utilized technology to trace Savanah's cell phone.
With the information, officials stated that they successfully identified a potential location for the suspect vehicle seen in the surveillance video footage released last week. Upon locating the vehicle and determining the associated residence, officers approached the house.
