Sean Duffy blasted for saying career-first advice for young women is a 'false promise'
WASHINGTON, DC: Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy is under fire after claiming it’s a “false promise” to advise young women to pursue career advancement before having children. The remarks were made during an appearance on 'The Shawn Ryan Show' podcast, recorded earlier this week and circulated widely on social media on Thursday, November 13.
Duffy appeared on the podcast to discuss his family life, his views on parenthood, and the message he believes young women should hear today. The clip has since ignited a heated debate online, with many accusing him of hypocrisy and overstepping into women’s personal decisions.

Sean Duffy says women are being misled about careers and fulfillment
During the podcast, Sean Duffy opened up about his own life with his wife, Fox News personality Rachel Campos-Duffy, and their nine children. He argued that modern culture encourages young women to prioritize career milestones over family, calling that message misleading.
“I think the message today, Shawn, is so interesting that we're telling young girls, get a job, advance your career, your career is the most important thing that you have in your life,” he said. “And I think it's a false promise, man. I think it's a false promise.”
Duffy said that while careers can offer “money,” “colleagues,” and “personal gratification,” they ultimately cannot replace deep emotional relationships.
“But who do you have a cup of coffee with on a Saturday morning? Who do you get to watch a sunset with?” he asked. The transportation secretary argued that while having young children can be challenging, work colleagues and corporate culture do not provide lasting companionship.
Internet blasts Sean Duffy's 'regressive' statements
The reaction online was swift. Many also pointed out that Duffy’s wife, Rachel, maintains a prominent television career while raising their children.
One said, “You know what? We live in America. For now- people still get to choose their own path,” and another wrote, “Maybe Sean or his wife should go home and stay with their 14 children instead of telling others how to find happiness! Apparently being at home with that many children doesn’t make either of them happy.”
A person asked, “In what world is it possible for a young family to survive on 1 paycheck?” while someone else added,"But HIS wife and the mother of his NINE children has a career as a television host and conservative advocate/spokesperson."
An individual bluntly wrote, "Nice try, too late. We gone!" "It's called balance and women are just fine, thank you," one more said.
"He's the transport sec and doing a terrible job, so why is he even weighing in on this frankly regressive piece of propaganda," another critical tweet read.

Others argued that Duffy should be focusing on his Cabinet role, especially as airports nationwide continue to struggle with delays and disruptions following the 43-day federal government shutdown, which ended on Wednesday.
Past controversies resurface amid debate
The controversy comes just months after Sean Duffy and his wife caused outrage when Rachel Campos-Duffy posted a photo from the memorial service for conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Her caption urging people to “fall in love, get married, have more babies than you can afford” was widely condemned as irresponsible.
