NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Mayor Zohran Mamdani's new New York City sanitation policy has become the latest flashpoint in the voter ID debate.

On Monday, February 23, Sean Hannity devoted a segment of his show to criticizing NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani over a requirement that individuals present five forms of identification to work as snow shovelers for the city’s Department of Sanitation.

Tomi Lahren also mocked Mamdani for the same and questioned his stance over the matter.

Sean Hannity slams Zohran Mamdani's 'hypocrisy'

Hannity weighed into the controversy as contradictory to longstanding Democratic opposition to voter ID laws.

“Democrat hypocrisy is back in the spotlight and this may be my favorite story of the month,” Hannity said.

“Democrats have been fearmongering and claiming voter ID is racist, and if voter ID is racist, or as Chuck Schumer calls it, ‘Jim Crow 2.0,’ then apparently, New York City fits the bill.”

He then mocked the Mamdani directly: “Because under the leadership of new Mayor Zorhan Marxist Commie Mamdani, Chuck Schumer must believe the city is extremely racist, because according to the city’s own Department of Sanitation, you need five forms of ID to shovel snow and get paid”

Despite criticism online, Mamdani defended the policy in a clip aired during the segment, attempting to explain the reasoning behind the documentation requirement.

“Federal law requires that employers get authorization and documentation to pay people for their work. We are not allowed to just cut checks to individuals for their work,” the mayir has said.

Hannity then spoke to Rep Mike Lawler, who described the policy as “absurd on its face.”

Tomi Lahren’s sarcastic takedown

Conservative commentator Tomi Lahren took the argument further, using biting sarcasm to highlight what she sees as inconsistency.

“Here, the travesty and the scandal is, is that I don't know how people of color and married women are going to be able to go out and shovel snow,” Lahren said.

“See, because that's the problem. You know, married women. I don't know. See, they're disenfranchising all these people who want to make extra money shoveling snow because without these forms of ID that we couldn't possibly obtain because we're too dumb and too poor.”

She continued saying “I don't know how they're going to be able to assist their city in this endeavor. And that's the real scandal here. I feel very disenfranchised. And I'm sure many married women and people of color in New York City do as well. Might be racist.”
