BERLIN, GERMANY: Sebastian Stan, known for his roles in major Hollywood blockbusters, recently took a stand against a journalist who made an insensitive remark about his co-star Adam Pearson.

During a press event promoting their upcoming film 'A Different Man,' the 42-year-old actor called out the reporter for using the word "beast" to describe Pearson, who has facial tumors caused by neurofibromatosis, as per Daily Mail.

The incident happened when Sebastian Stan and Adam Pearson were at the Berlin Film Festival promoting 'A Different Man,' where the story follows Stan’s character, Edward, a man who undergoes facial reconstructive surgery.

However, after the surgery, Edward becomes fixated on Oswald, a man with facial disfigurements, played by Pearson, who portrays Edward in a stage play.

Pearson, who lives with neurofibromatosis in real life, has faced many instances of insensitivity, but Stan wasn’t about to let this particular comment slide.

During the Q&A session, a journalist asked Stan, "What do you think happens after the transformation from this so-called beast, as they call him, to this perfect man?" implying that Edward’s pre-surgery appearance could be likened to a monster or a beast.

Stan immediately took issue with the phrasing of the question.

Without hesitation, he responded, "I am gonna call you out a bit on the choice of words there, because I think part of why the film is important is because we often don't have maybe even the right vocabulary."

Stan continued, "I think it's a little more complex than that, and obviously there's language barriers and so on, but you know, 'beast' isn't the word I think."

"I think ultimately it's just interesting to hear this point because I feel to some extent that's one of the things the film is saying, you know, is that we have these preconceived ideas," he added.

Stan emphasized the need for more thoughtful discussions around these subjects.

"We're not really educated on how to really understand this experience. So I can't really speak to that, but one of the things I love about the movie is that it's offering you a way to kind of look at it," he asserted.

"Hopefully, if you can have the same objective point of view while you're experiencing the film, then maybe you can pick apart the initial instincts that you have, and maybe those aren't always the right ones," Stan concluded.
