Selena Gomez cracks ‘childless cat lady’ joke at 2024 Emmys amid BFF Taylor Swift’s Trump drama

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Selena Gomez could not resist from making a joke of the now-infamous phrase “childless cat ladies” when she took the stage at the 2024 Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday, September 15. 

This comes after her close friend Taylor Swift recently endorsed Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris for the 2024 election. Swift had signed off her enoresement post at "childless cat lady".

Swift clearly was taking a dig at Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance.

After Swift endorsed Harris, Trump vented his anger saying, "She seems to always endorse a Democrat and she’ll probably pay a price for it in the marketplace."

Selena Gomez took to the stage at the 2024 Emmys with her ‘Only Murders In The Building’ co-stars Steve Martin and Martin Short to present the Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, Daily Mail.

Standing on the podium, Short, 74, initially said, “And Steve, let me just say what an honor it is for me to be working with someone who looks like he's fallen and can't get up.”

The 79-year-old Martin retorted, “And let me say what an honor it is for me to be working with someone who looks like a former women's tennis champion.”

Gomez could not help from making a joke and she chimed in, “And let me say what an honor it is work with two guys who are this far away from being childless cat ladies.”

The Rare Beauty founder’s recent quip came just days after she opened up about her inability to “carry” her own children due to “medical issues".

Just days after becoming a billionaire, Gomez opened up to Vanity Fair, saying, “I haven’t ever said this, but I unfortunately can’t carry my own children.”

The songstress explained, “I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while.”

Selena Gomez made a reference to “childless cat ladies” just a week after Taylor Swift signed off her endorsement post for Kamala Harris as a "childless cat lady".

Donald Trump’s running mate, JD Vance sparked criticism after his old video calling Kamala Harris a "childless cat lady" resurfaced.

Vance had called senior Democrats in the Congress and Biden administration “a bunch of childless cat ladies".

He said, "We’re effectively run in this country, via the Democrats, via our corporate oligarchs, by a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable too.”

Vance grouped the vice president with Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Sen Cory Booker (D-NJ), and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).

“It’s just a basic fact – you look at Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, AOC – the entire future of the Democrats is controlled by people without children. And how does it make any sense that we’ve turned our country over to people who don’t really have a direct stake in it?”

Gomez’s BFF Taylor Swift, whom she referred to as a “big sister” in a recent interview, took a jibe at the controversial phraseology when she referred to herself as a “childless cat lady”.

In her endorsement post made just after the debate between Trump and Harris on September 10, Swift declared, “I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election.”

She concluded by signing, “With love and hope, Taylor Swift, Childless Cat Lady.”

To make her point, the ‘Bad Blood’ singer posted an image of herself with her fluffy cat Benjamin Button.
