WASHINGTON, DC: Sen Tom Cotton stood up for the US and its allies, saying the military operations against Iran delivered results.

He called the campaign not just necessary but a clear success and credited President Donald Trump for using US intelligence and military strength to push back Tehran.

Cotton said the first phase of the campaign hit Iran hard and disrupted its operations, especially as tensions rise across the region.

Cotton highlighted the size and accuracy of the recent strikes.

He said the level of coordination between US intelligence and the military was unprecedented.

“President Trump once again boldly used our overwhelming force, our critical insights from our intelligence agencies to knock Iran back on its heels,” Cotton said.

Cotton acknowledged the risks but urged focus on the broader strategic picture.

“There's thousands and thousands of missiles. They vastly could overwhelm our missile defenses combined with Israel and our Arab friends. This was an absolutely necessary decision,” he said.

Cotton described the operation as a demonstration of smart planning and military skill, noting US forces haven’t faced anything quite like it in recent months.

“It’s an incredible display of skill, bravery, and ingenuity by our military and intelligence agencies,” he said.

He drew a comparison to previous operations overseas, citing the joint campaign after strikes in Venezuela.

“We haven't seen anything like this, Sean, in two months since we did it in Venezuela to Nicholas Maduro.”

For Cotton and other supporters, the US-led strikes targeted not only Iranian military infrastructure but also served as a deterrent against future aggression.

“This was an absolutely necessary decision. I commend President Trump for taking it,” he said, noting Iran now faces reduced offensive capabilities and a diminished missile threat.

Even with praise, Cotton warned risks remain.

“Yes, Iran isn’t firing as much lately, but US forces and their partners aren’t out of danger yet,” he said.

“And Iran doesn't have nearly as many missiles anymore. We've seen the rates of fire falling significantly.”

“It's still a serious risk. Our troops are still in danger. This is still probably going to take weeks, not days, but it's been a striking success here in the first few days of this campaign.”

This campaign, he added, could drag on for weeks, not just days.
