In her interview, Shakira heaped praise on Martin, whom she met for the first time in 2014 when she was a coach in the music reality show 'The Voice' while Martin was a guest mentor.

She added, “I see him as a person who sees life through a different lens, who's sensitive to other people's needs and very empathetic.”

The Colombian songstress and the Spanish soccer star, who met on the sets of filming the 2010 FIFA World Cup anthem ‘Waka Waka’, dated for more than a decade and welcomed two sons - Milan, 11, and Sasha, nine - together.

The former couple decided to split in 2022 amid rumors of Pique cheating on Shakira with his now-girlfriend Clara Chia Marti.

While the ‘Green Eyes’ singer supported his friend during her tough time, they shared a warm friendship even before Shakira's painful split from Pique.

In 2018, the ‘Whenever, Wherever’ singer wished Martin on his birthday by penning a heartfelt post on Facebook.

She wrote, “Happy birthday Chris Martin, and thanks for being there for me when I needed you,” per Daily Mail

How Chris Martin motivated Shakira using a 'metaphor'

During a Rolling Stone cover story on Shakira back in June, Chris Martin opened up about standing by Shakira's side during a time of need. The outlet revealed that when she was going through the breakup, the Coldplay singer sent her a "photo of a shattered vase glued together with gold laminate".

Martin explained the Japanese art form of “Kintsugi", before recalling telling the songstress, "You’re going to be so much stronger once this is over."

Martin said, “That’s the metaphor,” before adding, “That you break and then you get fixed with gold, and you’re more beautiful than you were before. For anyone going through a hard time, me included at times, that’s a really powerful thing to hold on to.”

He further added that his initial introduction to Shakira was through her 'Whenever, Wherever' song. He shared, “I definitely remember when I first heard of her because I was like, ‘Who has a song where they say “My breasts are small and humble?”' I was just like, ‘This person’s mind is unbelievable'."
