'Nasty work': Fans furious as Kobe Bryant's parents are trying to auction off his first NBA championship ring
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The Internet was left fuming after Kobe Bryant’s parents put his first NBA championship ring up for auction on Goldin.
The NBA superstar gifted the first of his five NBA championship rings to his father Joe Bryant after winning it for the Los Angeles Lakers in 2000, as per Vibe. Kobe, who died in January 2020 in a helicopter crash, also gifted his mother, Pamela Cox Bryant, a replica of the said ring.
Per Goldin, the ring, made of 14K gold and 40 diamonds, is currently valued at $94,000 and the auction is scheduled to end on March 31 at 7.30 am.

Netizens shred Kobe Bryant's parents for trying to sell off his prized possessions
One said, "Idk why his family would sell his ring, it’s not like Kobe did not leave 800 million dollars for his family🤷🤷," and another noted, "Kobe would of never sold it. Wow sad."
"Shame on his parents smh," stated a person, while someone else remarked, "Nasty work."
One more opined, "That’s crazy work from the dad I’m guessing." An individual expressed, "The Kobe disrespect has to stop. The fact that his dad sold it is just sad 😔."
Another person exclaimed, "They should be well off forever from the money Kobe left them, it’s a shame they are doing it."
"How you gonna get a ring gifted to you by your son and proceed to sell it 🤷♂️," noted a netizen.
A fan pointed out, "I can’t believe I saw the parents are doing this, there is no way they’re short on money. I’m sure Vanessa would he happy to loan them money or give it to them even if they did. This is pretty sad & ugly. No other way to look at it. I would love to hear there reasons though. Wild."

Kobe Bryant's parents have tried to sell his memorabilia before
This isn't the first time that Kobe’s parents have tried to sell his possessions.
The basketball legend had a strenuous relationship with his parents, Joe and Pamela, who did not approve of his relationship with his wife, Vanessa Bryant. His parents weren’t even present during their April 2001 wedding.
Though the former Lakers shooting guard tried to amend the relationship multiple times, it soured further in 2013 when Joe and Pamela tried to sell his first NBA championship ring and some of his high school jerseys.
During that time, Kobe allegedly took to X (formerly Twitter) to share, "When u give Give GIVE and they take Take TAKE at wat point do u draw a line in the sand?" as per Los Angeles Times.
Subsequently, the NBA star filed a lawsuit, claiming that he wasn't notified about the sale and that they didn't have his permission to proceed with it.
In a statement to ESPN, Joe and Pamela said, "We regret our actions and statements related to the Kobe Bryant auction memorabilia. We apologize for any misunderstanding and unintended pain we have caused our son and appreciate the financial support he has provided over the years."
