LOS ANGELES, NEW YORK: Pop sensation and fan favorite Taylor Swift urged her fans to vote on Super Tuesday, but the message she was trying to send was misconstrued as several conspiracy theorists bizarrely tried to link her post with a global outage of Facebook and Instagram.

For those who are not aware, Mark Zuckerberg's Facebook and Instagram suffered a worldwide outage on March 5, Tuesday. The social media networks were down for more than two hours over a technical issue impacting its users globally.

Thousands of users reported issues on the Meta sites, including Facebook Messenger and Threads. Social media users trying to post photos or view videos came across "session expired" or "unexpected error" messages.

Following that several people visited the rival site X, formerly known as Twitter, to understand the cause of the problem.

Swift took to her Instagram account with 282 million followers urging them to "make a plan to vote today" on Super Tuesday. She wrote on her Instagram story, "I wanted to remind you guys to vote the people who most represent YOU into power. If you haven't already, make a plan to vote today."

Swift added, "Whether you're in Tennessee or somewhere else in the US, check your polling places and times at vote.org."

March 5 was a pivotal day in the campaign as fifteen states cast their votes to select the Republican and Democratic presidential candidates. Despite her prior support for President Joe Biden in 2020, she never hinted or acknowledged any one candidate her fans should vote for.

Not long after Taylor's post went up on her Instagram page, the whole site including Threads started experiencing issues.

Reports state that there were over 550,000 instances of disruptions for Facebook and about 92,000 for Instagram, according to outage tracking website Downdetector.com.

Meta spokesperson Andy Stone made a brief post on X regarding the outage: "Earlier today, a technical issue caused people to have difficulty accessing some of our services. We resolved the issue ... for everyone who was impacted."

That did not stop rumor mongers and conspiracy theorists from flooding with false theories behind Swift's post. There is no evidence that Swift is behind it.
