NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Taylor Swift has another feather in her cap. The pop sensation of the era is the only entertainer shortlisted for TIME Magazine's 2023 Person of the Year.

TIME has chosen Swift as one of the nine finalists who have significantly influenced the world in the past 12 months. NBC's 'Today' show announced the candidates on December 4.

The 2023 Person of the Year will be announced on the morning of December 6.

2023 is Taylor Swift's year

The year has been one of the luckiest for the pop singer as is the Grammy Award winner. Her fourth re-recorded album, '1989 (Taylor's Version)' became the most commercially successful re-recorded album.

The album shattered records in the music industry, achieving the highest single-day global streams for an album on Spotify in the year. It not only broke her record for most single-day Spotify streams but also dominated streaming on Amazon Music and the Billboard Global 200.

Besides her record-setting streams, she has had one of the most successful concert films in history, 'The Eras Tour.' Completing the tour's first international leg in South America, she is all set for Tokyo in February 2024.

The 33-year-old singer's concert tour film 'Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour,' also surpassed $250 million at the global box office, beating Tom Cruises' 'Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One' ($172 million) and Harrison Ford's 'Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny' ($174 million).

Swift was the 2017 Person of the Year cover, along with other "Silence Breakers" who spoke out against sexual harassment.

Who are the other nominees?

The other nominees come from a variety of fields.

One nominee is the Hollywood strikers, including the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Screen Actors Guild (SAG)-AFTRA showed the "power of both labor and the entertainment industry" and demanded their rights in a digitally evolving field was a historical moment of 2023.

Next are the Trump prosecutors in Florida, Georgia, New York, and Washington DC, who courageously came ahead with felony charges against the billionaire former president Donald Trump for election interferences and illegal possession of classified documents.

TIME also nominated the highest-grossing film of 2023, Greta- Girwig's 'Barbie.'

Other nominees include Chinese President Xi Jinping, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Russian President Vladimir Putin, United Kingdom's King Charles III, and Jerome Powell, Chairman of the Federal Reserve.



 

Swifties are elated for Taylor Swift's new achievement

The TIME Magazine nomination proves how much Swift has influenced the world in 2023, and the Swifties are the happiest for their icon.

One user said, "She does deserve this. The economic impact, social, she's been a light in somewhat bleak moments for many."



 

Another user added, "She deserves it and she's taking it."



 

"TAYLOR EMBROIDERING HER NAME ON THE WALL OF HISTORY," remarked a third user.



 

A fourth user was too happy and said, "Absolutely no question she should be chosen. 2023 was her year! @TIME will need to print extra copies!"



 

If she won, wow, that would be great. She has done a lot this year, making an impact especially economically, not to mention her donations to food banks," added one user.



 

Another Swiftie stated, "This year has truely been her year."



 

"If not her, then who else? This has been the best year of her career, and it's only getting better. She is easily the greatest musician of our time, and she has been the talk of the year," read another reaction.
