WASHINGTON, DC: White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre found herself fielding a barrage of questions regarding President Joe Biden's cognitive fitness during a recent press briefing.

The scrutiny intensified following the release of a report by special counsel Robert Hur, which highlighted concerns about the president's handling of classified documents.

Assessment of cognitive Fitness

Jean-Pierre addressed reporters' queries about whether Biden underwent a cognitive test during his unexpected visit to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on February 28. In response, she claimed that Biden's doctors had not deemed such a test necessary, Fox News reported.

“As it relates to, you were asking me about a cognitive test, as it relates to that — look, the president doesn’t need a cognitive test,” Jean-Pierre said. “That is not my assessment. That is not my assessment. That is the assessment of the president’s doctor, that is also the assessment of the neurologist who has also made that assessment as well.”

“And you have heard us say this, and I’ll reiterate this again if you look at what this president, who is also the Commander-in-Chief, passes a cognitive test every day,” she continued. “Every day. As he moves from one topic to another topic, trying to understand the granular level of these topics. You saw him talk about fighting crime today, tomorrow he is going to go to the border, next week he is going to give the State of the Union address. So we have that in mind. This is a very rigorous job and the president has been able to do this job every day for the past three years.”

During the briefing, Jean-Pierre defended the decision not to administer a cognitive exam, asserting that it is a brief appointment often conducted by unfamiliar individuals.

“If you look at what a clinical cognitive test is actually, what it actually does, it is a 15-minute appointment that is — that is administered by someone that, most of the time, people don’t actually know," she said.

Social media backlash

Jean-Pierre was trolled on social media for claiming Biden "passes a cognitive test every day." Some users even questioned her abilities.

"Good, then he should debate President Trump," one posted on X.

"She needs to take the test as well," another quipped.

"Now the question is can she pass one," someone else wondered.

"This woman is so insufferable," another chimed in.

Special counsel's report persisting questions

It's worth noting that special counsel Hur's report detailed instances where Biden exhibited memory lapses. Hur concluded that while Biden's memory limitations were evident, no charges should be brought against him, citing challenges in convincing a jury of his culpability.

“We have also considered that, at trial, Mr. Biden would likely present himself to a jury, as he did during our interview of him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory,” Hur wrote.

“Based on our direct interactions with and observations of him, he is someone for whom many jurors will want to identify reasonable doubt. It would be difficult to convince a jury that they should convict him — by then a former president well into his eighties — of a serious felony that requires a mental state of willfulness," the report added.

Following the press briefing, President Biden's physician, Kevin O'Connor, released a memo reaffirming Biden's fitness for office.

O'Connor's assessment indicated that Biden, despite suffering from seasonal allergies and obstructive sleep apnea, is "a healthy, active, robust 81-year-old male, who remains fit to successfully execute the duties of the Presidency, to include those as Chief Executive, Head of State and Commander in Chief."

Biden himself reassured reporters that his physical examination yielded no cause for concern. “There’s nothing different from last year,” he said Wednesday. “Everything’s great.”
