Wendy Williams' former lawyer questions quality of care talk show host is receiving under guardianship
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Following the shocking announcements of Wendy Williams’s aphasia and dementia diagnosis, the media personality’s former attorney is questioning the care she has been receiving under guardianship.
As the Lifetime documentary of the former talk show host is making headlines for revealing the shocking details about Wendy’s health and finances, her former lawyer LaShawn Thomas questioned the quality of care she is receiving after getting placed under a New York guardianship in May 2022.
On February 22, it was formally announced that Wendy was diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia. However, the diagnosis was made in 2023 but it wasn't made public until the recent announcement.
The condition with which Wendy has been diagnosed debilitates a person’s cognitive understanding while affecting the ability to read and write.
LaShawn Thomas questions ‘guardianship’
LaShawn Thomas, who previously represented the 59-year-old media personality, shared an old clip of Wendy on Instagram on Saturday, February 24.
Thomas claimed the clip was shot when Wendy was still living with her son Kevin Hunter Jr. She added that it was shot two weeks before she was made to go back to New York under ‘guardianship’.

In the clip, a healthier-looking Wendy was seen sitting on the bed and discussing that she liked working out in the gym.
The video which was recorded by the attorney showed Wendy flexing her muscle, while saying, “You know, I do what I can,” per Page Six.
Insinuating that the former radio jockey’s health deteriorated when she was placed under guardianship, the attorney wrote in the caption, “You can clearly see the difference between Wendy’s well-being during her time here in Florida with her son caring for her and her lack thereof in New York under this guardianship."
She continued, “These Wendys are not the same. How did her health deteriorate so quickly, and why isn’t her only child allowed to be by her side. She wasn’t like that when he cared for [her].”
The attorney further questioned the ‘The Wendy Williams Show’ host’s dementia and aphasia diagnosis and wrote, “If Wendy’s diagnosis is true, now more than ever, her son should be allowed that same grace. He deserves it … and most importantly, Wendy deserves it.”
Wendy Williams' family raised concerns over her condition
As Jennifer Hanley of Ridge Hill Group issued a press release on February 22 declaring Wendy Williams' diagnosis, Wendy's family members raised concerns regarding the whereabouts of the former radio jockey and claimed they were kept in the dark about her diagnosis.
As Wendy's sister Wanda Finnie was asked by People about the talk show host's health, she replied, “I don’t know, honestly. I don’t know." Finnie shared that following the guardianship, communication between Wendy and her family was restricted.
She shared, “It just appeared that all was cut off at that point,” and explained, “The people who love her cannot see her."
