WASHINGTON, DC: Ronna McDaniel, the former chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC), declared on Sunday, March 24, that she disagrees with former President Donald Trump's pledge to release those incarcerated for offenses connected to the Capitol disturbances on January 6, according to The Hill.

Notably, Trump has frequently pledged to free the January 6 rioters, who he he refers to as 'patriots', arguing that their imprisonment was due to political persecution following a violent mob break-in at the Capitol.

McDaniel mentioned in an NBC 'Meet the Press' interview with Kristen Welker on Sunday, "I want to be very clear. The violence that happened on January 6 is unacceptable. It doesn’t represent our country. It certainly does not represent my party."

She added, "If you attacked our Capitol … and you’ve been convicted, then that should stay."

Moreover, McDaniel told Welker that she didn't want to disagree with the former president while leading the RNC, which is why she is expressing her disapproval now.

"When you’re the RNC chair, you kind of take one for the whole team. Right now, I get to be a little bit more myself. This is what I believe," she said.

She further added, "I don’t think violence should be in our political discourse, Republican or Democrat. And I disagree with him on that. I agree with him on a whole host of other things. Let’s close the border. Let’s make sure we have good incomes for people."

She continued, "Let’s make sure we do a lot of great things. But on that point, I don’t think we should be freeing people who violently attacked Capitol Hill police officers and attacked the Capitol."

According to the Justice Department, over 1,350 persons have been detained on suspicion of crimes connected to the Capitol rioting, including over 400 accused of attacking police officers.
