'She's absolutely phenomenal': Fans over the moon as Indio singer Abi Carter crowned winner of 'American Idol' Season 22

INDIO, CALIFORNIA: Abi Carter was named the winner during the 'American Idol' Season 22 finale on Sunday, May 19.

Her victory followed a captivating performance, featuring her original song, 'This Isn't Over', as well as a rendition of Billie Eilish's 'What Was I Made For?'

Will Moseley and Jack Blocker finished second and third, respectively.

Carter, who hails from Indo, California, captivated the judges during her audition by performing a rendition of Eilish's song from the 'Barbie' movie.

She shared that appearing on the show had always been a dream for her, expressing, "This is just me doing it."

After her audition, Lionel Richie commented, "We don't need to vote," while Katy Perry chimed in, saying, "Thank you for being an example of singing from your heart. What were you made for? You were made for this. 100%."

Fellow judge Luke Bryan said, "That may be the winner of American Idol, I've never heard the crew clap," as per PEOPLE Magazine.

Since then, Carter has consistently impressed audiences across the nation. Earlier this month, her rendition of Adele's 'Hello' earned praise from the judges. 

Richie noted, "That was her best. That was her best in her best. And, of course, I'm sitting there going, is that 'Hello'? Is that 'Hello?' That's Adele. She turned that song into her song. Every whisper. She's the only lady I know that can make a whisper a note."

He added, "It's not about volume; it's about expression. She's got it and might fool around here to win this thing. It depends on how it goes, but I mean, that's how I feel. She's that strong and getting stronger."
