Shifty Shellshock: Crazy Town frontman, 'Butterfly' singer who battled addiction for decades dies at 49
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Crazy Town frontman Shifty Shellshock has died at the age of 49.
According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s website, the singer died at his residence on Monday, June 24.
Shifty Shellshock began his solo career in 2002
Born Seth Binzer, he met his rap rock band co-founder Bret Mazur in 1992 and they started as Brimstone Sluggers before changing it to the present name Crazy Town in 1999.
It was during the time that they met other members, including Rust Epique, James Bradley Jr (aka JBJ), Doug Miller, Adam Goldstein (aka DJ AM), and Antonio Lorenzo “Trouble” Valli.
The rap-rock band released their debut album 'The Gift of Game' in November 1999 and the band supported the Red Hot Chili Peppers on the tour afterward.
Their most popular song ‘Butterfly,' the third single from ‘The Gift of Game,’ came out in October 2000.
The song features Shellshock’s signature laid-back rapping style as he sings “Come my lady, come-come my lady, You’re my butterfly, sugar baby,” blending the two genres beautifully.
It reached the No 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for two non-consecutive weeks and was their most loved song, as per Variety.
Shellshock went solo in 2002 and released ‘Starry Eyed Surprise' in collaboration with Paul Oakenfold which peaked at No 41 on the charts.
In 2004, Shellshock dropped his first solo album 'Happy Love Sick' which tasted moderate success in Europe.
The artist has appeared in a few reality shows such as VH1’s ‘Celebrity Rehab' and ‘Sober House’ openly sharing his struggles with addiction.
Shellshock is survived by his three children, Hago, Gage, and Pheonix.
