MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA: Sen Tommy Tuberville, a Republican from Alabama, stated that the GOP leadership ought to have given greater consideration to the allegations made in Sen Katie Britt's (R-Ala) rebuttal following President Joe Biden's State of the Union address.

Sen Katie Britt has come under fire for presenting a story of sexual assault from two decades ago as an attack on President Biden.

In response to a query from CNN’s Manu Raju on Sunday, Sen Tuberville acknowledged, “Yeah, well, that obviously didn’t go over too well.”

“I would think that our leadership would have vetted that a little bit more because I would imagine they helped her with that,” the 69-year-old claimed on ‘Inside Politics With Manu Raju.’

“You know, and that’s again, that’s a mistake made. But it was a good point of emphasis on what really goes on from the border. And I think that’s what she’s trying to get over more than anything,” the Alabama senator added.

What erroneous claims did Sen Katie Britt make in her GOP rebuttal to Biden’s SOTU address?

Senator Katie Britt recounted the story of a woman she met who was subjected to human trafficking between 2004 and 2008, per The Hill.

The Alabama senator, serving her first term, shared the story as a part of the Republican Party’s response to criticize President Biden's border policies.

Britt asserted that the narrative reflects Biden's border strategy in response to the severe backlash she’d faced online following her unsubstantiated accusation against the incumbent POTUS.

Sen Britt remarked during a ‘Fox News Sunday’ interview with Shannon Bream, “I’ve said, in (Biden’s) first 100 days he had 94 executive actions, and those executive actions didn’t just create the crisis. They invited it.”

“The truth is, and the media knows that they’re not covering it, that human trafficking has gone up under President Biden,” she claimed.

Sen Britt labeled President Biden a “dithering and diminished leader,” in her State of the Union response as well.

Many people thought that Sen Britt's rebuttal was delivered in an unusual manner, and on the following Saturday, actress Scarlett Johansson made an appearance on ‘Saturday Night Live’ to make fun of the Alabama GOP senator in the famed NBC weekly comedy skit show’s cold open.

Regarding his colleague’s delivery, Sen Tuberville felt it was "good."

“She really expressed heart and she’s the type, you know, she gets emotional,” he remarked. “It’s not like that wasn’t something that was just brought up. I mean … she’s really emotional about being a mom and her kids.”

Internet slammed both Republican Alabama senators

Individuals on X criticized both Alabama GOP senators for attempting to reassure the public regarding their perceived errors.

One X user remarked, "GOP leadership should have canceled her speech."

Another user asked, "So... he suddenly supports fact checking now?" [sic]

A user quipped, "Bro, don't you think it's a little late for GOP leadership to start vetting claims?"

One user remarked, "Tuberville is a day late and a dollar short."

Another X user snarked, "Yeah why expect a sitting senator to do something as complicated as use Google before spreading some inflammatory information in her big television debut."

One more user tweeted, "Maybe you should consider vetting Trumps continuous lies." [sic]
