'Sickening': Internet sides with 'Morning Joe' hosts for criticizing NBC News over Ronna McDaniel hiring
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Former RNC chair Ronna McDaniel, recently hired as an on-air contributor for NBC News, will not be featured on MSNBC's 'Morning Joe' in the near future.
The show's co-hosts, Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, expressed their strong disapproval of McDaniel's hiring on the morning of March 25, particularly after her appearance on 'Meet the Press', on March 24.
Joe Scarborough urges NBC to reconsider Ronna McDaniel's hiring
Scarborough stated, "I know you won’t be surprised to know that we’ve been inundated with calls this weekend, as have most people connected with this network about NBC’s decision to hire her."
The host mentioned that they learned of McDaniel's hiring through media reports on March 22, indicating that they were not previously informed by NBC about this decision.
“We weren’t asked our opinion of the hiring, but if we were, we would have strongly objected to it for several reasons including, but not limited to, as lawyers might say, Miss McDaniel’s role in Donald Trump’s fake elector scheme and her pressuring election officials to not certify election results while Donald Trump was on the phone," Scarborough added.
Brzezinski emphasized that while they support NBC's efforts to include conservative perspectives in their political coverage, they believe it should involve conservative Republicans, not individuals who have actively undermined democracy by denying election results during their time in power.
"We hope NBC will reconsider its decision," Brzezinski stated, adding, "It's clear that she will not be invited as a guest on Morning Joe in her capacity as a paid contributor."
Following this, 'Morning Joe' aired a compilation of clips from McDaniel's appearance on 'Meet the Press', where she continued to assert concerns regarding the integrity of the 2020 presidential election.
NBC News faces backlash over hiring Ronna McDaniel
NBC News has faced significant criticism for hiring McDaniel, with MSNBC notably distancing itself from her as a contributor.
MSNBC president Rashida Jones informed staff that the network does not intend to utilize McDaniel as an on-air contributor.
Several staffers, including NBC's Chuck Todd, have spoken out against the decision to hire McDaniel.
Todd, who participated in a panel discussion following McDaniel's 'Meet the Press' interview, openly criticized the network on-air for its choice.
"I think our bosses owe you an apology for putting you in this situation," Chuck Todd conveyed to 'Meet the Press' anchor Kristen Welker.
He continued, "Look, there’s a reason why there’s a lot of journalists at NBC News uncomfortable with this. Because many of our professional dealings with the RNC over the last six years have been met with gaslighting, have been met with character assassination."
Viewers express discontent with NBC's hiring of Ronna McDaniel
Many voiced support for the hosts' statements, with one person saying, "I really like watching Morning Joe but I am so horribly upset with NBC for hiring such a horrible election denying person like Ronna McDaniel. NBC has lost a lot of credibility in my opinion."
Another noted, "Ronna McDaniel in , Mehdi Hasan out . What kind of crap is this NBC?"
"NBC employees should boycott McDaniel. They are all clearly upset about this hire and so are the viewers. NBC needs to break her contract and let her go to a more relatable home, Fox or Newsmax.WE DON'T WANT HER HERE!!!," another viewer chimed in.
"Dump Ronna; why on earth would you have hired her??!!!," one more person said.
"Unsubscribed. You want Ronna McDaniel, you won’t have me. Enjoy your loss in ad revenue. Goodbye," voiced another user.
"I am sickened by the fact that NBC has hired Ronna. Please reconsider this choice!," said one more viewer.
