NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: President Joe Biden faced backlash on the internet for calling upon his predecessor Donald Trump to cooperate in solving the border crisis.

While the incumbent asked Trump to join him in backing the bipartisan border bill, netizens questioned why he would not pay heed to the urgency of the situation and resort to executive action instead.

Joe Biden's message for Donald Trump

Taking to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on March 1, Biden shared a clip of him addressing reporters during his visit to Brownsville.

"Here's what I would say to Mr Trump," he says in the video. "Instead of playing politics with the issue, instead of telling members of the Congress to block this legislation, join me, or I'll join you in telling the Congress to pass this Bipartisan Border Security Bill. We can do it together."

"You know and I know, it's the toughest, most efficient, most effective border security bill this country has ever seen," he continued. "So instead of playing politics with the issue, why don't we just get together and get it done?"

The post was made from Biden's personal account, where he further wrote, "My message to Trump: Instead of playing politics, why don’t you join me in telling Congress to pass the Bipartisan Border Security Agreement?"

Internet reacts to Joe Biden's tweet

Netizens, however, did not share the president's enthusiasm of pushing for the bipartisan border security bill, as the following tweets demonstrate.

"Sign an Executive Order and close the border today. Stop blackmailing Congress for funds for other countries! Your constant lying gets old," wrote a user.

"A border security agreement that doesn’t secure the border. That’s not even necessary because Biden already has the tools to secure the border. An agreement that funds overseas wars with $80 billion of taxpayer funds that we don’t have. No thanks," stated another.

"Your message to Trump? You’re the president. You wanted this job, right?" rebuked a third. "Border crossings were down under President. Laken Riley could have been your daughter. Why didn’t you fight to protect her? You’re a father. Have you no remorse? Have you no empathy? Have you no shame?"

"Trump won't back this bill bc it's a bad bill and everyone knows it. It gives 3x as much money to Ukraine as to the border & the $20B for the border is to enable more illegal immigrants to be processed into the country faster than you're already doing now," claimed a fourth.

"Why don't you just reverse your executive orders opening the border?" jibed a fifth.
