DUBLIN, IRELAND: Sinead O'Connor's cause of death has been revealed months after the singer died at the age of 56.

The iconic Irish singer who died in July 2022 died of natural causes, according to the statement by a spokesperson for the Southwark Coroner’s Court, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Sinead O'Connor's friend stated singer 'died of a broken heart'

First responders who were called to O'Connor's home in London found her "unresponsive."

Expressing their heartbreak, the songwriter's family stated at the time, "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinead."

"Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time," the statement added.

David Holmes, a producer and close friend of the singer claimed in a new documentary that she had "died of a broken heart" following the tragic death of her youngest child, Shane.

In the statement confirming O'Connor's cause of death, the spokesperson for the Southwark Coroner’s Court stated, "This is to confirm that Ms O’Connor died of natural causes."

"The coroner has therefore ceased their involvement in her death," the statement added.

Where is Sinead O'Connor buried?

O'Connor who died at her Herne Hill home 18 months after the death of her 17-year-old son is buried in Deansgrange cemetery, south Dublin.

At the time of her death, O'Connor's family released a statement requesting privacy, and a month later, they expressed gratitude to those who sympathized and offered condolences.

"The children of Sinead together with Sinéad’s extended family wish to thank the countless kind people who sympathized and offered condolences on Sinéad’s recent passing," read the statement published in The Irish Times.

"Their helpful support for the family is much appreciated. Finally, we wish to thank Sinéad’s fans and admirers for the wonderful funeral procession they gave her past her old home in Bray and for the national and international outpouring of love and affection for Sinead from the time of her passing," the statement added.

"The prayers and thanks of the extended O’Connor family are with you all," they concluded the writing.

Sinead O'Connor was shattered by the death of her young son, Shane

In her last social media post, O'Connor shared a picture of herself and her teenage son Shane and tweeted, "Been living as undead night creature since. He was the love of my life, the lamp of my soul."

"We were one soul in two halves. He was the only person who ever loved me unconditionally. I am lost in the bardo without him," she added.



 

At the time of her young son's death, the heartbroken mother took to Twitter as she wrote, "My beautiful son, Nevi’im Nesta Ali Shane O’Connor, the very light of my life, decided to end his earthly struggle today and is now with God."

"May he rest in peace, and may no one follow his example—my baby. I love you so much. Please be at peace," wrote O'Connor who has three children and was married four times.
