Actor, model, musician: Ethan Browne's creative career
Ethan Browne, born in 1973 to Jackson Browne and actress Phyllis Major, first appeared in public at just six months old, on the cover of Rolling Stone, cementing him as a well-known personality long before he pursued his own career.
Ethan built a varied career across acting, modelling, and music. He appeared in several films and TV projects, including the 1995 thriller 'Hackers' alongside Angelina Jolie, the 2004 Kate Hudson film 'Raising Helen', and a 2002 episode of the WB's 'Birds of Prey', a Batman spinoff series. He also worked as a model appearing in campaigns for designers such as Isaac Mizrahi.
Although he kept a relatively low public profile, Ethan was deeply admired by those who knew him, including music producer Mark Ronson, who described Ethan in his 2025 book 'Night People' as "the real deal, with an angular face and soulful gaze that seemed to reveal his deepest truths, even from a glossy page."
Jackson Browne's parenthood journey and his deep admiration for Ethan
Jackson Browne spoke candidly in a 2021 interview with AARP about the challenges and regrets of parenting amid a demanding music career, saying, "Love of our children motivates us to work hard for a future where they'll flourish and you know, I tried. But I think I could have done a lot better, I have many regrets."
"It is very difficult to divide your time between the imperatives of a creative life and the awesome guiding and caring for a child... some of the small mistakes are the most difficult to rectify," he shared, acknowledging the weight of balancing fame and family life.
Jackson spoke highly of his eldest son, showing his pride in Ethan was unwavering. In a 2022 interview with Tru Rock Revival, Jackson called Ethan a "great father, a great son and a great man."
The 'Somebody's Baby' crooner cherished the fact that his son was a committed father, saying, "When I see him in movies, modelling, with his daughter and being such a great dad, it makes me feel very proud. It makes me feel I've done something really right in my life."
