Sophie Turner says being a single mother is 'such a struggle' after her divorce from Joe Jonas
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Sophie Turner has opened up about her experience of being a single parent to her two children, whom she shares with her former husband Joe Jonas.
The 28-year-old actress is the mother of two daughters — Willa, 4, and Delphine, 2.
She spoke about them while discussing her upcoming drama series ‘Joan’, which is about a single mother and jewel thief in the ’80s, Page Six reported.
Sophie Turner claims children should know ‘how hard parents work for them’
In an interview with the Sunday Times, Sophie Turner said, “If I hadn’t been a mother, I don’t know if I would have been able to bring the same energy that I did into it.”
The ‘Game of Thrones’ star continued, “It’s such a struggle being a single mother. Joan doesn’t go about it in the best way … but it is amazing to see her really fighting for her daughter."
“It’s also really important for kids to see just how hard parents work for them,” she added.
Sophie Turner speaks about the shame that comes with motherhood
As per reports, Sophie Turner began working for ‘Joan’ before her ex-husband Joe Jonas filed for divorce citing an "irretrievably broken marriage" as the reason in Miami-Dade County, Florida, in September 2023.
“Joan gave me a lot of strength. She also taught me how to do a good ring swap in a handbag,” she stated.
The ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ actress also mentioned the societal pressure that comes along with motherhood.
She told the publication, “There’s so much shame that comes with motherhood. You go to work, you’re shamed. If you don’t go to work, you’re shamed.”
Joe Jonas initiated divorce from Sophie Turner
Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas tied the knot in 2019 but in early September 2023, an insider revealed, as per Cosmopolitan, “Joe had his people contact and consult with at least two LA-area divorce lawyers and he is on the cusp of filing divorce docs to end his marriage to Sophie.”
A few days later, another source told PEOPLE, “As far as custody goes, this literally all just happened, so they're figuring it out in real-time. They did have a prenup. As a family, they were based in Florida. The kids were with him the last few months, traveling with him with family while he's been on tour. Sophie's been working in the UK.”
Another insider reportedly added that Jonas “never wanted to break up his family, but he had to take what he felt was the best course of action for his girls.”
“An unhappy home isn’t a home, and the truth is that he and Sophie were going through it this year. There’s a lot of noise out there, but it wasn’t a straw-that-broke-the-camel’s-back situation like it’s being reported,” they asserted.
