‘Southern Charm’ star Kathryn Dennis arrested on suspicion of DUI after 3-car crash, had ‘glossy eyes’ and ‘odor of alcohol’

BERKELEY, SOUTH CAROLINA: Former 'Southern Charm' star Kathryn Dennis was involved in a three-car collission in Berkeley, South Carolina. She was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, as per police report obtained by USA Today. 

The three-car collision happened around 9 pm local time on Monday, 20. At around 10 pm, the 32-year-old was stopped by the Goose Creek Police Department and arrested.

Dennis was said to be in possession of opened alcohol and was charged with a DUI. Several miniature bottles of Fireball Cinnamon Whisky were found in Dennis' car, some opened and empty.

One of the responding officers told a colleague that Dennis was "possibly impaired" upon stopping her, and another officer wrote in the report that she "had glossy eyes and an odor of alcohol coming from her."

Dennis, who was driving with her dog in the car, was evaluated by paramedics. She refused to go the hospital. However, she agreed to a field sobriety test. After checking her eyes and balance, the responding officer determined "probable cause existed for the charge of Driving Under the Influence."

According to statements from the two victims of the collision, Dennis' vehicle hit one of the cars from the rear, causing it to collide with another vehicle in front of them while they were stopped at a red light. The report did not disclose if the victims were hospitalized following the incident.

Police accused Dennis of driving with open containers of alcohol and DUI. She told authorities she drank alcohol earlier in the evening and refused to conduct a breath test at police headquarters.

She was subsequently taken to a detention center. She has been given a June 4 court date and a $257 bond.

This isn't the first time Dennis has been caught on the wrong side of law. According to People, in October last year, a vehicle registered in Dennis' name was involved in an alleged hit-and-run incident in South Carolina. 

According to Lance Corporal Nick Pye of the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the SUV struck a school resource officer who was directing traffic in front of Whitesville Elementary School. On the spot medical care was given to the injured cop.

The vehicle, which "did not stop at the scene of the collision," was later located at Dennis' address. 

A source noted that the actress was involved in the alleged incident, though the South Carolina Highway Patrol did not reveal who was driving the car. 

Days before her DUI arrest on May 20, Dennis, who bowed out of 'Southern Charm' after eight seasons in January 2023, was with her son, St Julien Saint. Dennis shares custody of her son and daughter, Kensington, with former husband Thomas Ravenel. 

Since splitting from Ravenel, 61, in 2016, the pair has battled for custody.

In 2016, Dennis checked herself into treatment and rehab following a brief period of not having custody of her children, whom she shares with Thomas Ravenel.

She told Entertainment Tonight in 2018 that she was "very proud of myself" for being sober and that she feels “mentally, spiritually and physically healthy".

But according to People, she revealed in the Season 6 'Southern Charm' reunion, which aired in August 2019, that she'd started drinking again.
