LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In her new song 'Houdini', Dua Lipa portrays a cunning illusionist who is swift to escape and difficult to catch, which reflects how she is approaching the most recent phase of her career.

Reportedly, Lipa is getting ready to release her third studio album. This album deviates from the disco fantasy that inspired 2020's 'Future Nostalgia'.

However, Lipa was caught by 'Barbie the Album' executive producer Mark Ronson before she slipped into her new psychedelic soundscape and from that, 'Dance the Night' was born.

According to the Rolling Stone, the song 'Dance the Night' is vying for Song of the Year at the 2024 Grammy Awards.

Ronson reached out to Lipa via Instagram direct messages for the grandiose 'Barbie' soundtrack, offering to write one of the two most important musical pieces in the movie.

Additionally, the film's co-writer and director, Greta Gerwig insisted that the song had to be a disco record.

That's how 'Dance the Night' was born which now acts as the soundtrack for Barbie's existential crisis as she wonders if the other Barbies have been contemplating death as well.

'Longevity more important than instant-hit thing'

Although Lipa has been singing since she was a young child, she's been cultivating that drive to push herself while secretly planning her follow-up to 'Future Nostalgia' since 2020.

The glitzy throwback vibe of 'Dance of the Night' seemed to mark the end of one musical chapter, with 'Houdini' signifying the next, even if she's also aiming for the pop stratosphere.

Lipa is no stranger to changing personalities; 'Houdini' symbolizes a new musical persona for this dynamic performer. However, she's come to realize that she needs to wait and see how the public reacts to her songs.

In conversation with the Los Angeles Times, the 28-year-old pop superstar spoke about her songs: "There’s always something that’s a little weird about them that the more you listen to them, people want to listen to them more."

"They grow slowly, but they stick around. And that’s all I want: I think the longevity is more important than the instant-hit thing."

Lipa reworked and scrapped lines as she created 'Dance the Night', eventually sprinkling the dance choreography from the accompanying scene into the song to keep rhythm.

Lipa's nostalgic tribute to the bygone disco period in 'Dance the Night' is partially a result of her wanting to have personally experienced it, as she did not live through it. However, it brought her back to a contented childhood.

Lipa said that she is happy that 'Dance the Night' lived up to the hype around a film that she always felt would be a big hit. She had hoped to write a song that would be more than just a cheap hook for a big-budget motion picture.

Internet praises Dua Lipa

Following Lipa's conversation with the Los Angeles Times, Internet users and online fans took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to praise the singer for her thoughtful assertion.

One X user praised her and wrote: "Exactly queen, you don’t need a #1 that freefalls the next week. A #2 with 70+ weeks on charts is FAR more impressive!"

A second user added, "Stability is the key," while a third one noted, "She knows what she’s saying."

"She didn’t stutter and that’s why i call her QUEEN," said one fan.

Another user agreed and wrote: "Yeah longevity is what matters in Music industry."

One more echoed a similar sentiment and said, "Longevity what matters most."
