'Starsky and Hutch' cast Then and Now: Here's what happened to the stars of 70s cop drama
Cast of 'Starsky and Hutch' then and now: Where are the original cast members?
'Starsky and Hutch', the buddy cop drama that aired from 1975 to 1979, is a must-watch for TV enthusiasts. Viewers were enthralled by the crime-solving pair, racing around town in their iconic white-striped red Ford Gran Torino, responding to calls under the radio sign "Zebra Three,” and, of course, charming beautiful women. Following the death of David Soul, who portrayed Hutch, fans are left wondering about the whereabouts of the other cast members.
Paul Michael Glaser - Detective Dave Starsky
Following his role as Detective Dave Starsky in the original Southern California-based series 'Starsky and Hutch', Glaser remained active as an actor. He took a hiatus in the mid-1980s but made a comeback with roles in 'Something’s Got To Give' (2000) and a cameo in the 'Starsky and Hutch' remake (2004). His career gained momentum with appearances on shows like 'The Closer', 'Criminal Minds', 'The Mentalist', and 'Numb3rs'. More recently, he had recurring roles in 'Grace and Frankie' and 'Ray Donovan'. In 1994, Glaser tragically lost his wife Elizabeth to AIDS. She had contracted the virus through a blood transfusion during the birth of their daughter Ariel in 1981.
David Soul - Kenneth Hutchinson
David Soul, originally David Solberg and hailing from Chicago, began his career with guest appearances on iconic shows like 'Flipper', 'I Dream of Jeannie', 'Star Trek', 'All In The Family', and 'Gunsmoke' before gaining fame as Hutch in 'Starsky and Hutch'. Beyond acting, Soul was recognized for his music, achieving a number one hit in 1977 with "Don’t Give Up on Us." He continued touring until his death at the age of 80, with no disclosed cause of death. As per The Guardian, his wife Helen Snell said in a statement, “David Soul – beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother – died on january 5 after a valiant battle for life in the loving company of family".
Bernie Hamilton - Captain Harold C Dobey
Captain Dobey, portrayed as tough yet fair, had the challenging task of managing 'Starsky and Hutch''s antics while striving to understand the broader perspective. Actor Bernie Hamilton, after his role in the cop series, ventured into music, following in the footsteps of his brother, jazz drummer Chico Hamilton. He established the record label 'Chocolate Snowman' and contributed vocals to the album 'Capt. Dobey Sings the Blues'. Hamilton continued producing R&B and gospel albums for several decades until his passing in 2008 at the age of 80, succumbing to cardiac arrest.
Antonio Fargas - Huggy Bear Brown
Huggy Bear, with his flashy attire and moral ambiguity, showcased unwavering loyalty despite not always being on the right side of the law. Antonio Fargas, the actor behind the character, continued his acting career after 'Starsky and Hutch'. He later gained recognition for his role as Doc in the sitcom 'Everybody Hates Chris'. Fargas is still active in the industry, with his latest appearance being in the 2023 comedy 'One Year Off'.
