WASHINGTON, DC: NBA star Stephen Curry and former first lady Michelle Obama came together to launch a healthier sports drink option on Wednesday, March 26, reported CNBC.

Named Plezi Hydration, the drink was launched by Curry and Obama through the latter's public benefit company, Plezi Nutrition. It claims to have no added sugar or artificial sweeteners, less sodium than leading rivals, and a full daily dose of vitamin C.

At the age of 37, Curry is presumably approaching the end of his playing career. Plezi Hydration serves as another addition to the growing portfolio of off-court ventures at this time.

With this, the four-time National Basketball Association champion joins other celebrity athletes venturing into the energy drink market, such as Kobe Bryant and BodyArmor, and LeBron James and Mtn Dew Rise.

Stephen Curry and Michelle Obama's statements on Plezi Hydration launch

Following the launch of the drink, Stephen Curry shared a statement that read, "We’ve created something with smart ingredients and unbeatable flavor, so people can fuel their bodies the right way. No nonsense, no shortcuts — because the next generation deserves better."

According to Plezi, Curry was actively involved in the different stages of creation of the product, from the actual drink to the packaging. His wife, Ayesha, has a culinary background and was brought on board for the creation and taste of the drink.

Plezi Hydration will be available in three flavors, namely, lemon lime, tropical punch, and orange mango twist, out of which the latter is Curry's personal favorite. The 16.9-ounce bottles will cost $2.29 each and will be available in California at Walmart, Albertsons, and Safeway, and delivered across the United States on Amazon.

“We’re excited to provide a delicious, healthier option for everyone who’s trying to get active and stay hydrated,” Obama, co-founder and strategic partner at Plezi Nutrition, shared in a statement.

Obama launched Plezi Nutrition in 2023 to “help raise a healthier generation of kids".
