Terri went to Australia Zoo in 1991 while on vacation from the US, and fell in love with Steve; the following year they were married.

Steve Irwin tragically died at the age of 44

While filming near Batt Reef, Queensland on September 4, 2006, Steve tragically died at the age of 44 due to a stingray puncturing his chest.

Terri notably assumed leadership of Australia Zoo following her widowhood. In the years since Steve's death, Irwin and her children, Bindi, 25, and Robert, 20, have worked assiduously to preserve his legacy of conservation.
