Angela Bassett reveals her children's disappointment on losing the 2023 Oscar for Best Supporting Actress
LOSA ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Angela Bassett, 65, candidly discussed her Honorary Oscar and the reactions of her family after losing on Best Supporting Actress award at the 2023 Oscars.
While talking about the season 7 premiere of her show '9-1-1', she mentioned her surprise at receiving the Governor’s Award, especially after not winning Best Supporting Actress.
The star received a nomination for Best Supporting Actress in 2023 for portraying Queen Ramonda in 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever'.
Angela Bassett's children anticipated her Oscar win
During a recent episode of 'Live with Kelly and Mark' host Kelly Ripa expressed a shared sentiment.
She said, “I gotta tell you, I think there was a collective — I was really expecting you to win that Academy Award last year."
"And I’m sure I’m not alone,” she added, to which Bassett replied, “So were my kids. They were. They just knew it, hands down.”
Bassett shared that her children were with her when she received her honorary Oscar in January 2024, and how they dealt with the disappointment.
"They were indeed, they were with me the night of the Oscars and it didn't happen," she said.
"So they were supremely disappointed, as young people can be," she added.
Angela Bassett says it was a 'teachable moment'
Bassett said losing the Oscar was a learning point, "But it was a teachable moment just to, you know, to carry yourself, hold yourself, go to the parties with grace."
She continued, "And know that, just keep one foot in front of the other, keep going, keep following your dreams. Because 24 hours, what a difference a day makes," she said as per People.

Angela Bassett’s husband is not familiar with '9-1-1'
On 'Good Morning America', she admitted that her husband, Courtney B Vance, may not have seen much of her show.
When co-anchor George Stephanopoulos inquired, she responded with laughter, suggesting that Vance is always busy with his projects, and might have watched '9-1-1' in its early days, if at all.
"I don't think he has!" Bassett replied, adding, "Maybe in the early years. I don't know. He's one of those with projects, so he's always busy with something."

'9-1-1', whose seventh show is premiering has moved from Fox to ABC.
Created by Ryan Murphy, the series was among the most highly-rated on the Fox network before its cancellation due to elevated production costs.
Subsequently, ABC acquired the show, and is set to debut its seventh season this week.
