Taylor Swift's 'Eras Tour' breaks $1 billion mark as it becomes first-ever tour to reach milestone
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Taylor Swift's remarkable year has achieved a new milestone: Pollstar, the live-music trade newspaper, reveals that her 'Eras Tour' generated an estimated $1.04 billion in gross ticket sales, marking it as the first tour ever to reach such a significant milestone.
In the 12-month span from November 17, 2022, to November 15, 2023, Swift's tour outperformed all others in terms of ticket sales. The 'Eras Tour' sold an estimated 4.35 million tickets across 60 events during that period.
Pollstar's analysis, reported by Variety, indicates that Eras Tour merchandise sales during that timeframe exceeded $200 million in addition to ticket revenues.
'Eras Tour' is expected to bring in over $2 billion in revenue
Moreover, Swift shows no signs of stopping in her record-breaking spree. Pollstar anticipates that the 'Eras Tour' is poised to surpass $2 billion in revenue, with ticket sales reaching $1 billion once again in the upcoming eligible box office year.
Despite the conclusion of the tour in November 2024, the singer's management has conveyed to tour trackers that no official box office figures will be disclosed. As a result, the reported totals remain essentially estimates.
The Billboard Boxscore list of the 30 highest-grossing performances
Unlike Pollstar, Billboard's Boxscore charts exclusively rely on officially supplied data. Consequently, Beyonce's tour claims the official top receipts of 2023 on that chart, totaling $570.5 million.
This is based on the absence of information from Swift's team or the venues where she performs being disclosed.
The Billboard Boxscore list of the 30 highest-grossing performances of the year excludes any Swift concerts due to the information blackout and the publication's reluctance to depend on estimates.
Taylor Swift was awarded Time's Person of the Year
Swift, aged 33, was honored as Time's Person of the Year this week. She described this accolade as her "breakthrough moment" in her career, following the record-breaking success of her 'Eras Tour' and the immensely successful concert film that earned $250 million at the global cinema box office.
After Swift's Eras Tour, the top 10 rankings of international tours for 2023 by Pollstar include Beyonce (No. 2), Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band (No. 3), Coldplay (No. 4), Harry Styles (No. 5), Morgan Wallen (No. 6), Ed Sheeran (No. 7), P!nk (No. 8), The Weeknd (No. 9), and Drake (No. 10).
According to Pollstar, the combined concert industry earnings for the top 100 tours in 2023 increased by 46% to a record-breaking $9.17 billion (from $6.28 billion the previous year).
The top 100 North American tours in 2023 achieved a record-breaking $6.63 billion in revenue, up from $4.77 billion the previous year.
According to Pollstar, all ticket sales figures are derived from actual box office records, projected ticket sales based on venue capacities, historical Pollstar venue ticket sales data, and additional research.
